Cheaters always prosper...

The saying when I was a school boy was told: Cheaters never prosper. As I got older, I found it to be the opposite. If you want to get ahead in business, cut corners and cheat.
Depending on how greedy you are there comes a time when you can no longer hide shady dealings.

This afternoon in the news, I read:

Judge Arthur Engoron, ruling in a civil lawsuit brought by New York Attorney General Letitia James, found that Trump and his company deceived banks, insurers and others by massively overvaluing his assets and exaggerating his net worth on paperwork used in making deals and securing loans.

The Trump Organization had been under investigation for more than a decade, but Trump while president was under a veil of protection. The veil is gone.

So it appears that cheaters can prosper until they get audited.
"Judge rules Trump inflated net worth, committed fraud, overvalued assets"

You knew this was coming... right?

L2 is Link and Lobby

build a business requires good management. There are many things that must be done for the business are met.
This afternoon I want to offer a handicraft product to a company for materials exhibit in October. When it until I find a man who bowed with his face tired.
I approached this man then tried to ask:
"Sir, what is happening to you?"
he replied:
"My proposal was rejected by the company".
Back I asked:
"How can?"

This man took a deep breath and said:
"The company just received proposals from parties who have a relationship with government links, and also I do not know how to persuade the director to want to consider my proposal."

This man passed away with disappointment.
His departure makes me think that Link and Lobby is needed in a bid.
This is a valuable lesson for me.

Problems in Lebanon...let me count the ways...

Once the jewel of the Middle East, as a state only a century old, and has known the high life, along with low wars. Seems like the real problem is the evolution toward a total lack of accountability, on the part of corrupt Pols, the rapacious banks, and the people themselves. All blame each other, and when that no longer brings modest results, they seem resentful that the IMF and other loan brokers, no longer have open wallets for them. As was the usual modus operendi there for generations. Money down rat holes gets gobbled up by the most adept rodents.
Depositors can't get their dollars back from banks, hospitals (almost all private) are closing---complaining there are no more subsidies from Beirut. Imagine that? Currency devalued some 70%, with fewer paid in "fresh money", ie, foreign cash. Few jobs left at all. Infrastructure failing, or just no longer extant.
The second hand clothing/possessions markets thrive, where mid fashion was formerly the mode. Soup kitchens are packed, as are food banks, but supplies are low. And emigration, especially among youth, and the better heeled, is way up. Government officials have mostly given up, in a funk all, except when protecting their ill gained loot. Even the black markets have quit. Long forgotten friends/kin are being hit up for help of any sort. Food, rent, medicines.
We rightly think of Dark African States as being in this shape, but the blight has moved to Little Libon. Power and refuge had been available and shared among the three main religions, but after the last war, suspicions remain high.
Regional neighbors have meddled or tried to intervene, depending on perspective, and as with government officials, all have given up.
Can anyone say it's THE prototype of a failed state?

The manufacturing of ventilators...

I've been reading a story about General Motors manufacturing ventilators that were normally built by the medical device company Ventec in Indiana.

GM will be using a 2.6 million square foot facility that normally produced electronics for cars. Repurposing their factory to accomplish this requires totally different techniques than what this factory normally produces.

Work has already started on different levels. There's the engineering and building redesign, procurement of raw materials and assemblies from other sources, hiring and training of over 1,000 employees required to perform the work. More than 700 individual components go into the making of a ventilator. Cloning the Ventec factory may not be possible but tooling, computer software and hardware would most likely be the same.

According to experts, initial runs of prototypes must obtain US Food and Drug Administration approval before they can officially begin production. Best guess is product may not be available until the end of April... that would be after the predicted peak in the New York City outbreak.

It's reported Ventec normally produce 250 units per month and GM is expecting to ramp up to produce 10,000 per month. It's safe to say their facilities would be working 24 hours a day and 7 days a week.

Please hold your comments to the discussion of ventilators. Any comments that are political or point blame will be deleted.

Old School...

I gave several months notice and phased out of a sales position working for a company who specializes in kitchen and bath remodeling. It was a problematic position and the company understaffed. That forced the salesmen to do jobs (like project manage) that cut into time needed to sell. There were other reasons, but I wanted out and agreed to finish the contracts underway and not accept any new work.

Something else (more to my liking) came along and I started working for a high-end custom manufacturer. It was agreed that I would often be called away (from time-to-time) to finish obligations of the other job.

They are using a design program that's considerably more difficult that other industry software but I'm being paid to learn it and make drawings for my boss along with some of the other sales staff. I'm assigned to follow up on sales leads as they come in.

One of the designers (fancy name for a sales person as we all are called designers) has some personal issues and decided to leave the company. I noticed some of her work is/was problematic that requires meetings with the owner and factory manager to resolve manufacturing errors in her designs. She's had issues with clients who also complained about not getting things in her designs. I don't know her track record but after she left they passed 17 leads to me she wasn't following up on. We subscribe to a client monitoring system from Google we use that keeps track of leads, notes and client correspondence. It gives reminders so if you forget for follow up on a lead it will appear on a list and how many days it's been since you contacted the client. It took 3 days to go through the list (while doing other things) and 4 of the leads are still alive.
She didn't answer email to a client who bought a condo in Florida and will visit from their New York residence. I read some email complaints from the customer who didn't get a reply, met with her this week and received a deposit to start shop drawings.

The designer who was leaving had a meeting with the owners to pass her projects to them and they would decide who to divide her projects to. We are a team and often help the other coworkers when something needs to be done. I'm made drawings and gone on field measuring trips to help the other sales staff. It's fine with me as I'm learning their procedure. While I have 30 years experience in this business and handle a wide range of situations, my forte as sales manager was fixing the mistakes from other designers/salemen.

A call came through yesterday from a client who paid a deposit and wasn't getting service to finalize the shop drawings so we could start manufacturing. Some miscommunication happened and he got bounced around. One of the staff who is assigned to write up orders is somewhat familiar the job was too busy to take it and suggested giving it to me. With several people in the room, the senior designer also stated it should have come to me. The designer who was leaving wanted one of the other designers to take it. When my name was mentioned she said "He's too Old School" and that she wanted someone else to take the project.

I laughed and said "I'll take that as a compliment, at least I don't have a history of pissing off clients."
She's gone, it's not her decision who should handle the project. I have the time and experience to deal with it. I went over this event with my boss who admitted he was overloaded (didn't followup) and so was the senior designer (who came in Saturday to take on the project) and agreed they didn't make the correct decision.

Sadly, the senior designer looked at the shop drawings and found some critical design mistakes that have to be resolved with the client because they need to be aware of the necessary changes.

So much for New School designers...

Focus Energy...

It's a busy Monday, so I put on a Focus - Energy - Concentration video on YouTube and moved the graphics down so it wouldn't distract me.
About 15 minutes into the video, I had to stop it because I couldn't focus on my work!

So much for focus energy... I think it's time for some aspirin.

Ship Date...

Seeing dozens of Amazon trucks on the road after dark has become normal. Since the pandemic people are less likely to store shop and more purchases are made online now. Last Saturday, I ordered batteries from a supplier who sent confirmation on Sunday. I know their sales department staff work from home now and it appears they have crews in the warehouse day and night so things get done with the work force spread out. Maybe they had 10 people packing orders for the day shift and now it's 5 in the day and 5 in the night... less interaction and less chance of them passing virus.
The batteries arrived FedEx on Thursday. Normally, I would have to pay extra for that kind of service.
I did order a computer Monday that was confirmed for Friday UPS delivery... Doubtful in my mind and checking the tracking number in the afternoon yesterday, the ship date was moved to Monday before 9pm. Not long ago that used to read 'by end of day' but so many deliveries have to be handled they have extended package deliveries into the night.
After dark deliveries are expected a week before Christmas, it's become the new normal.
