The Keystone is a proposed pipeline that will carry Tar Sand crude oil from Alberta Canada to the gulf of Mexico where it will be refined and sold by Canada to countries in Europe and Asia. There are many pros and cons to this project. I'm sure many of them will be expressed in this thread at least I'm looking for a spirited debate.

well some thing is wrong liberal huffington post claims that south dakota indians will shut this down but the bill did not pass looks like propaganda, many jobs would have been created including some kick backs to the reservation
but on the upside will keep the petro truckers moving. so....as the crap churns

How would the Indians shut the pipeline down? What are you calling propaganda, the Huff Post article? A link to the article would be helpful. The jobs created by the project will only be temporary during the building of the pipeline, once it's done, those jobs cease to exist. The pipeline will actually kill jobs in the long run due to the acknowledged fact that a pipeline is far less *Labor* intensive than trucking the oil or shipping it by rail.
So the selling of the pipeline to the public includes the popular tactic of waving the "Jobs Carrot" in peoples face. Let's face it, the long term benefactors of this pipeline will be "Big Oil". The rest of us will get Emphysema from inhaling the filthy air that will result of burning this crud.

Yes, the R's seem to favor it I think because they are in the pocket of very big oil co doners and lobbyists. The D's are opposed to it because they are more environmentalists and tree huggers. It's kind of a choice between a quick buck and long term health of the planet. Seems a strange time to be even thinking about this project with the price of oil so low and falling.

hiya T
i have mixed feelings about this. in BC, they opened a mine promising that it would bring 'real' jobs to the unemployed BC miners and loggers out of work... when the mine was opened and the job ads were posted...you had to be fluent in mandarin to get the jobs...
then Clark put in fracking...something i don't agree with. and she approved fracking on a fault line...(who does this kind of thing.... )
soooo...the pipeline... i don't trust the current BC government to serve it's people...it's sold us down the tube...sold our ferries, sold our land, has little regard for saving our natural parks and wildlife (many risk areas and damaged areas already along the coast), and spread the have and have not divide...on and on...and any of those 'real' jobs for the unemployed seem to go to folks who don't even live here yet...

I say build. We're years away from renewables being adequate at the necessary scale(even in principle). Plus it'll be good to see a foreign corporation trampling over Americans rather than an American corporation trampling over foreigners. What's good for the goose is good for the gander.

just telling what I read,
dont ask me, that was the story yesterday but the bill failed in the house, i sais it looks like propaganda, but I like diesel you cant run anything heavy with out it, more punch, also like coal great stuff, LOVE IT but all clean burn coal plants bein shut down... china gets too build more raw burn plants, thanks agenda 21 think I will go out and get a coal burner kit fer my truck!!!
now in some sense of seriousness it would be better to build it cause canada was supposed to start sending all the their oil to china cause they were tired of waiting, and the long term benefit is that any one who has this running across their property would have some income for life in some form of some kind of lease agreement
plus it would make for more business here in the gulf ports

There is a reason for everything but complications come into play. The complications are most likely worked out with the people involved but since secrecy in maters of National Security could mean somemething/Anything then ...Who knows... I just take a stab.

Wouldn't it be easier and more productive to simply engineer a regime change in Canada and then let KBR build a refinery on Hudson Bay?

what??? employ Canadians , cut out every ticket clippers along the proposed pipeline , retain earnings in Canada . You are off your rocker Ray , really , what next western world start paying its way .
As a Native of Alaska, sold from Russia into America, the price will never be paid. Don't do it, the WATER will sour and the lands will be worth nothing.
