I had this thing, ya see. With an ex...in jail he'd write me letters, apologizing for all the wrongs he'd done...He got out and it was a different story. I'd only hear from him from time to time, or not at all. He'd tell me he wanted to marry me, give me the things he denied me years ago...but if you can't fight for who or what you want...why bother? It's been 4 months since I've last heard from him. This is over. I am free. I have chosen, to say no. I am stronger.

Perhaps, it is because of the experience of being broken by hurt, and the suffering that goes with it, in whatever area of life, that we are able to experience greater depths of happiness at a later time. Kahlil Gibran says: "The deeper that sorrow carves into your being, the more joy you can contain." Perhaps, it is within the very cracks of our brokenness that we can discover a new joy and beauty that we may not be able to experience if we were not cracked and broken. I wish to dedicate this piece to those who have experienced acute pain and suffering in their lives, whether in romantic love or otherwise. Remember the words of Kahlil Gibran!
A reflection of a beautiful time spent in Provence.
My best friend was going through a really difficult time. She lost her sister to breast cancer so I wrote this poem to, hopefully, help her understand that there are others who love her, no matter what crisis exits in our lives.

I know this is a different type of write from me..I've had this contemporary type semi-autobiographical idea for this poem for some time..Inspired by Tom Wolfe's 1976 term of the 1970's being the "me decade." In order for Americans to relate to each other was to have a so called national therapy group..It seemed like everyone had a guru, priest, spiritual adviser or prophet...
