I AM GOING TO CAIRO NEXT WEEK

I love Cairo , and I hate Cairo .... Do you feel that for some places in the world? I don't know if I am looking forward to going there or dreading it.
Egyptian men are very romantic, smooth talking honey lips honey tongued .... except the taxi drivers they drive me nuts.
I think I love egypt , na i think i hate it..... oh well at least its easy to find true love there , with a little extra tip they will tell you they love you and really mean it.
When you rent a car always best to pick the most damaged one in the lot, because it will be getting more ding's in it thats for sure , you can't drive in Cairo without getting a ding in your rent a wreck . One of the best things you can buy in Cairo is lingerie ... truth ... its sexy , verrry innovatively designed , I don't know which country makes the best lingerie Yemen or Egypt , its a comedy show just looking in the windows of the shops ...at least you can have a good laugh.
Then you sometimes have the fanatical religious guys who come up to you and spit out the word SHARMUTTA in your face .... Then there are others who really appreciate shapely ladies with blonde hair.... Thank god for them ..
They make nice beer in Egypt... really good beer. STELLA , great beer. They cook great fish in Egypt..... wonderful fish roe stew...did you ever try it ? Im remembering all the things i like in Egypt now , I think I love it there... saskia

MY NEW LOVE , MY OLD LOVE , MY NEW LIFE

Each year as the anniversary of my husbands death comes near , I suffer great anxiety , that I have been alone for one more year . It will be nine years this November the 3 rd , since my Bernard died. The date is more poignant to me because it was his birthday as well , and we got married on his birthday ………..30 years ago. I have always missed that man , He was my best friend , everything to me.
This anniversary I am happy and relieved to tell I am no longer alone , my new man Luciano found me , some months ago and we are in love , I am truly happy and we are starting a life together . He is widowed as I am , and we see many things in each other as qualities shared by our late spouses. This can be a little freaky , and comforting at the same time.
We feel we are very lucky to have found one another , I was beginning to think i would never find a compatible mate , someone who i could feel truly comfortable with , someone who wanted to listen , to share , to understand and support me . Someone i could feel comfortable in bed with someone to cuddle , make love with , and feel real love and passion with again.
Someone to laugh with , one who knows how to conduct himself, with dignity , and never embarrasses me. Some one people look up to and respect. Someone who knows how to conduct his affairs , and everything is taken care of automatically. The sensible man , who can quieten your anxieties with a single word, and you know he will take charge when you need it. thats my new man …that was my old man… Thats the way I like it .. A quiet but strong man… One who knows how to make it happen . There is no big ego there , no pettiness , pride , just a nice wonderful , strong but humble man.
He thinks of me always , but allows me freedom, he trusts me , and believes in me. I am not threatened by jealousy, or any insecurity on his part, and neither am I of him. That makes me feel safe, secure, and loved. It is easy to love this man , my Luciano….

This anniversary I will cry as I always do for my Bernard I know that , we had a special bond, I can never forget our love , our union and our great fulfilling life together. We crossed many bridges and There will never be anyone to replace him………. But there is Luciano now who is my next love , and I am his next love also …. the one who saved me from my loneliness , who has brought me back from the brink of despair I had with myself …… i did meet many men in my 9 years of widowhood, a few even wanted to marry me ……..many great men who were all better suited to other ladies , and I wish each one of them success and a happy life, and am grateful for the good times I had together with each of them .

The conclusion is folks that everything comes to you if you wait for long enough , and sometimes its them that finds you on the internet . This is what happened to me .

I thank you Bernard my darling for having been in my life for the first important part ……and ….. I thank you Luciano for having found me , and making me whole again , I know we will have a great life together and I will always be grateful to you for the effort you make for me. I welcome you to the second important part of my life and thank you for welcoming me into the second half of your life , I look forward to it , i look forward to being every day with you. Thank you for asking me my lovely man .

THE INCONTINENCE DIARIES OF OMA EV AND OMA SAS

My friend Oma Eveline asked me to go on holiday with her in Istanbul , we got back a few weeks ago.
Oma Ev is a wonderful Dutch friend living in Australia , the last holiday together , was to Egypt with another great friend of ours Sandy who used to be a boy. Sandy is older than both of us but still got a body to die for , Sandy is not an Oma (grandma) yet , I don't think she ever will be due to the fact that not all of her girly parts are working properly , if you get what i mean . If you saw her apart from the fact that she's been botoxed to death almost , and has those puffy lips that would give a trout a run for its money , our friend Sandy is a great looking gal of about 70. When she dances , young guys just love her, she's got that ""come here sonny i wanna give you a blowey right now " look in her eyes. Ok where was I , oh yes ,me and Oma Ev in istanbul… So Ev's got a bit of an embarrassing problem ,( and so do I , and so do lots of you, ) she pees her pants when she laughs or coughs.

So after a few great days in Amsterdam, some trying hard to get wiff s of dope wafting from some bleary eyed gunja smoker dawdling aimlessly down a back street in the Jordaan, and commiserating together that the girly in the window business must have also been hit hard by the global recession , so many windows were vacant and up for lease ….. We headed off to Istanbul on an economy flight , a pack of incontinent panties of the disposable kind packed just in case … Now just to put u in the picture here , my friend Oma Ev, god love her, is Jewish , so she likes to be careful with her money , and she's also Dutch , so thats like double frugal with money….. Thats no problem for me I grew up poor… and i will probably die poor , because I spend a lot of money travelling and buying handbags and sailing and other stuff . Now where was I ( apart from incontinence i also got memory loss , so sorry folks bear with me , this blog has a riveting ending to it)
When we arrive , Oma Ev thinks that a taxi fare to the hotel in Sultanhamet could be saved to buy better things ( like a kebab dinner with real meat ) by taking public transport. So, After a tram , bus, shanks pony, a few beers, getting lost , laughing too much, and the Oma's looking for toilets , or a quiet place behind a big wheelie bin to do the business , we arrived at our budget hotel , The plane ride was 3 hours , the trip from airport to hotel was 3 hours……Ev told me to book budget hotel so budget i booked …she wanted to have plenty of funds to buy her grandkids nice fridge magnets ……only to have Ev, when we rocked up ,wet her pants with laughter again at the sight of it……..course the suggestion by me that for only $500 extra a night we could have stayed at the Four Seasons in comfort and had free airport pickup in 30 minutes was not amusing to her at all. I think she was cursing one side of her heritage at that point for her ingrained thriftiness , but i am not sure which side ….

CASTRIES ST LUCIA .....

I sailed there in February on a yacht on my last trip in the caribbean . I arrived in castries on February the 22 nd which is St Lucia's independence day .
The main church in the centre of town was filled with school children and their teachers . The minister was welcoming guests as well as the Lady governor general Dame Pearlette to the service.
I was wooed into the church by the music ....
The thing i noticed most was the children's hair, how beautifully braided it was on the girls heads, the colourful ribbons threaded through the braids all of the national colours , yellow , blue and black. I took photos of the children they were so delightful.
I always think of my day in church in Castries , St Lucia seeing all the delightful children there fidgeting , singing in the church on their national day on february 22............ . when I see our own bible lady from the same place , here on the blogs with her bible quotes....
I wonder where she was on that day, was she in that church perhaps ? Am I the unbeliever , perhaps closer to the bible lady than I first thought . Did our paths cross that day I wonder ?

MALALA YOUSAFZAI shot by taliban

This bright and courageous young girl who stood up for the rights of education for her fellow students is fighting for her life because of the evil Taliban who want to take this country back into the dark ages again.
She has sacrificed her life for the sake of others , and for the rights of others. to something as simple as the right for an education for women.
As she says herself it is not written in the Koran that women cannot be educated.
There has been major advances in recent years in education of women both in Afghanistan and Pakistan. the statistics are wonderful and encouraging...
I am not religious at all , but my deepest thoughts and feelings go out to this brave young woman who has stood up for what was right , at great cost to her own safety. My best wishes go to her family and i have hope she will recover . This is the closest to prayer i can get.
There can be no punishment great enough for those ignorant idiots who think they are doing this in the name of Islam ... this action is very un-islamic, Islam means peace....

I created this blog after the former one was deleted quite quickly before my eyes as i was making comments . It was a great blog and deserved to remain here for all to see .. I thank the lady for having such feelings on such an awful situation for this poor brave girl. and giving me the inspiration to also mention the story.

WHO THINKS OF THE ELDERLY THESE DAYS ?

WHY IS THE WORLD SO UNFRIENDLY FOR OLD PEOPLE ?
I love it when I see old people getting out and about having fun and doing stuff . This week a friend of my Italian girlfriends and I hosted the visit of an 85 year old English gentleman by the name of Mr Prichard. His interest is in visiting great gardens , so we visited a few over three days in the North of Italy . We all had a great time together and its a wonderful thing to be with elderly people who have such wisdom and fun in them still , that they can see life through such different eyes as our own , and have even enough grace to pardon those who have a lack of appreciation of the elderly as if they themselves will never be old.
I had my old father with me till he died at the age of 85 and never considered living without him. He was such fun and never a burden . I could also see how difficult it would be for him to manage alone.
They cannot walk well , so how do they get to the shops to buy food? These days they have a service where everything can be delivered , how wonderful …..depending where you live of course…. They cannot drive anymore , so independence is completely cut off . In my village where I used to live in Australia there was the granny bus twice a week for the oldies to get together and tot off to town for a bit of shopping. I see poor old people struggling to get on and off the bus , young people not thinking to stand up for them even to offer them a seat.
The government also does not cater well enough for this group of a growing part of the population. I mean whats with all the small print everywhere? Small print should be banned on everything. Do you think an older person can read the small print on the train ticket that says you cannot use a ticket if it has been validated more than 6 hours before ? How easy do you imagine it to be for an elderly person to haul his suitcase up a flight of stairs to a train platform ? How hard to get on the train with the steps up so high ? What about cyclists in most european cities these days , scaring the wits out of old people as they whizz past so close not imagining the effect it could have on someone with a dicky heart? What about mobile phones , can they tell the difference between a 6 and an 8 on an I phone? I know I can't anymore.
Why don't people think about us , when we get older in just the small things ? Its so hard for the elderly to go out .
It seems most services these days are aimed for young consumers , no one thinks about the elderly . saskia

Greetings from beautiful CROATIA

I am sailing with my BASIL PLANTS......Hello my dear friends in blogland, I am missing you all deeply , I think about you every day as I cook myself in the sun on deck , and then cook for my friends in the tiny galley on board.
The thing i fear most is cooking pasta for Italians , we are 7 Italians and one Kiwi , and the kiwi is the cook . I am grateful to them all because either they are very polite ( or MAYBE I am getting it right ) , its such a simple thing to cook pasta , but also a very precise art . ( to them)
The risotto is another thing , a simple yet wonderful food .
I love cooking Italian food , all you need is a few simple ingredients and the right timing.

Paradise right now is in HVAR IN BEAUTIFUL CROATIA ..... love to you all , saskia , goddess of love , and no i am not russian .
