Didn't quite make 90 today, and will be missed by folks who know about the usual slimy sharks that are investment brokers/advisors. This decent man, who reminded many of a gentle, wise old professor, pioneered low cost index (computer managed) investment funds, at the venerable Vanguard Group. The usual management fees for most of their offerings ranged from 0.2 to 0.5 percent of money invested, compared to sometimes ten times that at places that manage funds by hand. He'll always be part of the culture in Valley Forge, and chats with staff there (mostly salaried-not earning directly from your money) at Vanguard are full of such nice things about him.
