hotel quarantine ...
we all know that the covid fight is a tough ask ,,,but why in the world are people being treated like criminals ,,even though they have tested negative for the virus ,,and yet they are locked up in hotel rooms ,AT THEIR OWN EXPENSE ,,because they have arrived from a red list country ,,,they have to test negative before they can fly ,,hopefully the airline staff abide by the same criteria ,,
so why are they locked up and treated so badly at their own cost ,,this surely has to be madness in its self ,,,
to be locked in a room for 10 days on your own would drive most people nuts ,,,
i really struggle to get my head around this ,,,,surely there has to be a better alternative to this cruelty ,,,,

Lots of reasons. Two for example:
Death in the family
Children away at college returning home after graduation
They go on holiday in the sun..sand..and sea..with the kids.
They already know the consequences as they have been "told'" not to travel, except for emergencies!
Hotel quarantine are awful for families with kids to spend the whole time locked up in a room and with very inadequate food!
Alternative?
and to have to pay anything from 1750 pounds up to 2500 pounds ,to be imprisoned with trash food and having to clean your own room is a joke ,,paying 5 star prices for hostel conditions says all that needs to be said ,,those that think this a just way to treat people ,,should view some of the many videos that have been posted,,
a government minister was tested positive on his return from a business meeting abroad ???? was he put in a lock down hotel for for 10 days ,,not a chance of that ,,happening ,one rule for the sharks and another for the bottom feeders,,
i know that the virus is dangerous and it needs to be rid of,,,there is no doubting that ,,
but what it has shown is how controlling governments are becoming and are using covid as a means of personal control over people along with data control ,,the covid passport will be the end of your privacy as you know it ,,as that app will track your every day life ,from going for a drink or dining out or going to a movie or concert ,,,
and yes i know a lot of you will say ,,ah yes but your credit or debit card does exactly the same thing ,
which brings up the subject that some business,s are not excepting cash payments ,and not just big concerns but smaller retail outlets ,,there by forcing your hand to conform ,,not for your benefit ,,,
is there an alternative ,,well if your are tested negative ,,you haven,t got covid ,,or are they saying that the tests do not work ????? by locking you up grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
Would you have the rules changed so that all and sundry can come into any country and be free to walk around.
Chin up, it's getting better and will continue to so do IF you behave yourself, so no complaining, just stick with the plan.
You said "even though they have tested negative for the virus". Yes, but within a day of Flying, so how do you prove that they didn't get infected after the test?
I don't wear a mask, don't wash my hands, my immune system is probably poor, and I don't catch the virus.
WHY?

Without taking vaccinations into account.

It seems a small price to pay to keep one's country covid-free.
Two weeks(as we do here) in managed isolation(not a prison, but a 5 star hotel) is hardly doing it "tough".
We have enjoyed freedom here in NZ for many months aside from a couple of minor outbreaks which were cleared up without too much fuss. We have no restrictions(no face masks or social distancing and operate normally as a nation) due to our border requirements.
