I have never had kids. If that's the response you get as a man, can you imagine the response a woman gets, being the natural bearer of children?
Pitying looks, incredulity, surprise, embarrassment. Even children here in Spain have quizzed me! You can practically see the wheels turning in peoples' heads, trying to figure out why. I never venture any explanations even though at times, they are silently willing you to explain, just to be able to put a label on your situation.
And don't mention the family! After all these years, you would think by now that they would have taken a hint. But I'm sure they'll still be asking when I'm 80!!!
At first I thought I was in a minority, but if you check dating websites, you will see that a substantial number of women have never had kids, or don't want them. I myself know several who don't, for whatever reason.
According to the statistics, one in six women suffers from Tokophobia, a fear of childbirth. Check the internet, there are literally thousands of articles and websites on this subject.
Even though I say it myself, I have a big heart, and am an old softy. I help anyone if they need help and I am always quick to say Hello to people and be friendly. I have done a lot of volunteer work for the homeless etc. I love my mother to bits and I really love animals, but ..... just have never had that feeling about children. I think some people think that women that don't want children are cold-hearted, but that couldn't be further from the truth.
