The Music Room

So my mother suggested giving the music room a facelift. That was perfectly fine with me. Been gutting it out the last 3 days (I have to do it in bite size pieces on account of the pinched nerve in my back). Having commercial sound gear is awesome . . . until its time to unhook and move it lol. Nightmare of cables and cords plus the big heavy amps and speaker cabinets. If I ever replace my gear, it will be smaller and lighter than what I have now (one amp is almost 40 lbs, the subwoofer is almost 80 lbs, too much for someone with back issues). I got it figured out though how to set everything back up that will be a lot more user friendly plus not have a matrix of cables running all over the place randomly as a eyesore.

I'm just glad its not a system from the 70s/80s. To have anything close to the performance of what I got now, it would be a lot bigger and much much heavier, you would need a full size van towing a trailer (and I still wouldn't have the deep low end I got now) so I can't complain looking at it that way lol.

Gonna be alright smile

With the exception of a few surviving metal bands, a wall of Marshall amplifiers has been replaced with a few smaller amps on stage and a HUGE sound system for the venue.
I've found that many touring musicians specify what they need and the local sound system provider does the rental for them. No more caravans of tour busses hauling a million dollars worth of sound and lighting to every gig!
A friend of mine was a road manager many years ago and told me he was in charge of a Billy Preston tour in England. They had 2 of everything so when one was setup for the current gig, the previous setup was torn down and moved to the following gig. He absolutely hated the 2 white grand pianos that required block & tackle when they have to load and unload to a back stage dock.
People who want to go on a world tour have never been on a world tour. You're right, you don't see stack after stack of amps and stuff, just a massive pa system. I wouldn't want to have to deal with it though lol, there is a lot more to the system than what you see. Plus the bass bin, you rarely see them as they are usually under the stage. They tend to be big and heavy to move.

Renting the gear is a lot better. Imagine having to haul around a monster pa system around the world.
