Nuclear Weapons, Why do we even have them?

First of all, I have to emphasize on the fact that I don't know much about this topic

.. I was thinking about it now

..

I just don't get why some countries spend so much money on developing these destructive weapons while obviously there are several other issues which need to be taken care of?

Let's say one crazy person had access to these weapons

and decided that it's time to play ..

Do we say good bye to planet earth then

exactly----they have so much issue of poverty --- spend all those money giving it to children education ....but no!!!they want war!!!(nuclear weapon)

.. We do have so many things to deal with and these things need money and urgent attention

Rusha, It might be to prevent war too, now that this monsterweapons first exists...? Sadly. What would happend if they suddenly dissapeard? Wouldn`t be peace, that`s fore sure...
We can only pray they don`t end up in the wrong hands... ore maybe I should say wronger hands...

Summerlove, go to "Upload Blog Photos" in the rubric "My Blog Admin" to the left. You upload the photo there and they give you a link (code) which you copy and paste in the blog.

its only 9 country have nuclear weapon,if they wont destroy their nuclear,they will get 3 more countries and so on,they must make some agreement??i really doubt that! because with that weapon they blackmail other countries to get what they want

However, nuclear technology should be handled very carefully, as you mentioned we do benefit from the nuclear plants, but see what happened in Japan after the earthquake few months ago?

Is it worth such high risks??

African, I'm almost twice older than you and maybe that's why think we can't solve all the global problems. It may sound heretical to a young idealistic person like you but it's better to try making the world better starting by ourselves. As the famous thought from Voltaire's "Candide" goes: "We must cultivate our garden".
Of course that doesn't exclude charity and being interested in global causes but we can't worry all the time about things we can't really change...

Got a phonecall from my son in law. He had cutted a highvoltage cable in Svolvær today, while digging trenches... He described the explotion as a nuclear sopp over town...

Luckly noone was hurt, but all town went dark...Good boy!
