Diagnosing . . Trusting Doctors . .
This issue really troubles me .. I have no problem of going to the doctor if I have minor things like high fever or flu .. But I would never dare and risk to go and check whether I have cancer or not .. I have heard from some friends about what happened to people they love because of misdiagnosing ..I also remember our neighbour (he is dead now) he was not feeling well, and when he went to the doctor she told him that he was fine and all he needed was vitamins, he did what she told him for few months not realising that cancer was developing, when he travelled to the UAE and went to a hospital there, they told him he had cancer but it was too late for him to get the necessary treatment ..
I am not saying that all the doctors like that, but it is really hard to see people being victims of misdiagnosing, especially if those people are people we know and love ..

Doctors are human and can make mistakes. Hopefully very few though....
The problem arises that if you can't trust your doctor then who can you turn to?
Sort of the same thing happen this week when the car stopped working, I guessed it was the battery, the roadside rescue reckon a tow truck was needed, a passerby told me it was out of gas..
Doctors can't really tell you whats wrong with us, just by looking at us, unless you describe in detail where the pain is or your whole family has been to the same doctor all their lives. I went to two doctors with the same story and both gave different answers... it makes me wonder how many die by doctors guess work.
Zandaar.. in our country and I will say many other countrys, doctors are protected from mistakes.
I would not like to be a doctor.
@ru4eva: I have been saying the same thing to myself, unless I feel something really serious then I don't want to take risk
I did read countless articles regarding the hazards of self-medication and indeed it's not advisible to self-medicate; however, being informed yourself can indeeed save u life.
A trivial example, if i had a growing lump in me leg, I wouldn't settle for a couple of pinches and a 'u are alright' by a doc meself ... Would only settle for a biopsy ....
Yeah perhaps it's a tad paranoid but better safe then sorry me pa says ...
(<-- that causes cancer amongst other problems ... :/)
@10kOhms: I don't know much about cancer, but I guess at the hospital they have equipment to tell whether you have cancer or not >> so why the misdiagnosing thing is happening over and over again ..
Oh there is a third and thats a witch doctor.., funny thing is they are better than private and public for diagnosing problems.
Beside the many mistakes they make there are so many people they are helping.
I for myself check out first if I can work with alternative treatments. If they don't work, then I go and see a doctor.
very tough topic for Sunday morning.... but each of us sonner or later has had experience with "cancer matter" personaly or at our close friends or family relatives. African, what you need to do is to see several docs regularly a year and trust a bit preventive medicine.
Have a great Sunday all
Have a great Sunday too
Thanks for the nice words, you are so sweet
Only preventive medicine is the best way to avoid or stop all in the beginning!
Thanks for the great advice
After a six year remission I knew again something wasnt right and went straight to my oncologist.
The First doctor was sending me to have an operation on a Brain Tumour that was very small.
I decided to change Doctors because i have a very good sixth sence. The second Doctor told me that it is very small and not cancerous because of the M.R,I x-ray.I am lucky i am here. The second Doctor told me i would be mad to go for the operation.Glad i took his advise.
Sometimes you are your own best Doctor, you know that if your body is giving you pain that it is sending out a warning signal.
I am my own best Doctor and i am free.
Just don't and try not to worry too much as worring only causes the situation to feel worse than it is.
You don't drink, you don't smoke, you live a healthy lifestyle so you will be ok.
Most of your Doctors are very good but they leave to come to the west because of more money and more opportunities.Correct me if i am wrong. Our Hospitals are full of Doctors from the Middle East.May you have good health for a long time to come.
@BlueOcean2011: I am glad to hear that you followed your feelings and you are fine now .. I think the doctors go to the west so they can develop themselves, as for the ones in kuwait I believe they are being well paid, but what chances that he/she could offer even more? I would say very little, as there is not enough encourgement, and those people are often ambitious and want to give more ..
I am taking care of myself, but one never knows .. I pray that you will have good health for a long time as well
I too hate seeing doctors when I was still growing up and right into my twenties but now that has changed after getting married and having babies.. I do a once a year medical checkup including pap smear and mammogram.
African, if you feel something is not right in your body for instance, then pls have a check up... go to 2 or 3 doctors to get their opinions for cross checking....
Have a great day(ore night ore whatever)
and not all the doctors Bad...there are some very good.
@ aswina; good advise from you to all of the girls.
yes, not all doctors are bad, it is getting misdiagnosed what scares me more .. but I think the best thing is seeing more than one doctor as every body here suggested ..
That's right and the best suggestion.
wish you be in a good health.
@session9: I am glad I am not alone in this, I had times thinking of what I am going to do if I found out that I have cancer .. It is really a hard decision to do alone, and I didn't say anything to my family so I don't make them scared, if I am going to do it I will do it secretly ..
