Yeah me!!!

Back in January, I decided to make more of an effort to lose weight and get into better shape. So far, I have lost 16.8 lbs. I am now considered overweight and not obese. Being short, like I am, can be a difficult thing. When you are taller, you can gain 5 or 10 lbs and look ok...for the most part. Anyway, I have to lose 25.2 lbs. to be within the normal weight range for my height. To reach my goal weight, I need to lose 33.2 lbs.

I started using the gym at my school, where I'm a grad student. I go 5x/week. I use the elliptical each time I go and spend at least 45 min. excluding the cooldown. At most, I spend an hr. and 10 min on the elliptical (including the cooldown). On Mon., Wed., and Fri., I do some weightlifting/strength training.

I can tell that I have lost weight as well as inches around my waistline. Losing weight and exercising has been great. I feel better and I currently weigh less now than I did when I was 24. My goal weight would put me at ~5 to 8 lbs. lighter than I was when I got my undergraduate degree (back in 2003).

Yes, losing weight has the health benefits (mentally, emotionally, and physically), but I'm hoping that it will also make me more physically attractive to guys.

Keep up the good work.
Setting a goal is important and as you
realize, both diet and exercise are essential
to health. You CAN do it ! cheering
Thanks. I agree...diet is important. I've been working on that but I think I'm doing ok in terms of what I eat. I'm not a huge fan of sweets (cakes, ice cream, cookies, etc.). I do have a weakness for the occassional (sp?) soda or eclair. I figure that it's ok to treat myself to something like that every once in awhile. It keeps me motivated. I just make sure that I figure it all in to what I eat during the day. The way I see it is, if I ban myself from any kind of treat then I am setting myself up for failure. And failure is not something that I like to see or hear. Of course, I'm a perfectionist. You probably can't tell that from my picture. grin A professor at my school said that many scientists are closet perfectionists...meaning that you may not see it by the way they look but you can see it in their personality and/or by the way they do their work, etc.
Keep going at it field. You are doing great. Once you get to your desired weight, you'll be one happy living lady - Nothing beats living a healthy life
