AT THAT MOMENT I...

A Cessna 172B pilot in Mexico had to save his plane after his airplane propeller detached in flight. Yes, detached. Plonk. You can see the action from the cockpit in this video, including the exhilaration and relief of the passengers at the end.

Before the first cut the plane is good, with the propeller still on. The next one, it's off, but the engine is still running to keep power in the plane. Then you can hear pilot—steel nerves, not a single sign of nervousness—and co-pilot discussing where to land, looking for a place—"there are some trees" the pilot comments calmly at one point—until they spot the road in which he finally performs a perfect emergency landing.

"I've never felt death so near," says one of the women who was travelling in the back. "Our propeller fell," repeats the copilot after getting out of the plane, which landed successfully on a road. Skip to the end to see the Cessna' nose without its propeller.

wave Sleepin, parti. Many people(passengers) would handle that kind of situation with hysteria, and in that confined space would have caused havoc. Must've felt the confidence and professionalism coming from the pilot.Very difficult situation indeed. cheers
wave El,,,,,rolling on the floor laughing rolling on the floor laughing rolling on the floor laughing rolling on the floor laughing Get me outa there...good one laugh laugh cheers
Stony, Yes the pilot did what he was taught to do in flight school . Depending on the airplane you have a certain amount of time to search for a landing spot in an emergency . The 170 series Cesnas as well as the other high wing personall craft have a high L/D ratio ( they glide well ). what this means is that you can remain airbore longer and search for a sutable place to land . Now as for the prop coming off ! I wonder if the maintainence person ever heard of safty wire ! If this was not the case and it was metal fatiuge , then the log book should have regestered the hours of operation and replacement should have been in order . Checking the torque on props is not part of the standard preflight ritual but a quick look for nicks or deep scratches is . It is also a good idea to grab it by your hand and turn it a little to check it's connection . All this is taught in flight school before you even get in the plane . Almost all incidents are a failure to heed the basic preflight . That is what they mean by " pilot error " .
Stony, all i can say is, they were very lucky people.
God was with them.angel
wave Franky, you have a good all round avionic knowledge. cheers
wave weeping.. yes. absolutely one can call it what you want,,, just imagine the relief after standing on 'terra firma' again.cheers
wave Hi Calli...No doubt,,I think even the pilot was saying a silent prayer. wine
That is the new GO GREEN airplane.... Starts like a plane, ends like a glider..... oh hell no!!
Asombroso Captain!!!beer

I've been also watching planes miraculously crashed land in air crash investigation. There are factors that cause a plane crashed: 1) mechanical engine failure, 2) weather, 3) pilot error, 4) air traffic controller error 5) terrorism.
