patriotism

i have always wondered about this. i have heard many people say that americans has no culture, but lets look at it this way.
is it because maybe because of television and media that american "culture" has become the standard that the rest of "us" "the world" started to percieve it this way?
for instance, saying americans has no culture is like saying that english isnt a language.

yes i believe they do have a culture, just one we have grown to acustomed to.
maybe "we" "the world" out side of america should just work harder on preserving our own.

Our culture is who we are...What is our culture, you say....well in a sense then, do tell me yours. Can you explain it? Hmm?confuseddunno help
i gave u the idea and i will help u find some answers
USA has a CULTURE ,but not really traditions .they have the mixed culture of all the races around the globe and the traditions their advertising industry created.i talked about fake patriotism ,not about fake culture.anyway those r very hostile waters for me.professor yay
hi red no i think you have misunderstood, what i am saying is the world got confused and took your culture as theyres instead of preserving theyre own.
look at tv gameshows for instance australia south africa newzealand we all have the same just with different names... farmer wants a wife etc.
this could get good, popcorn but then again, doh
@lindz
my friend tv shows r NOT culture . i refuse to believe americas culture is those junks .u can tell me about jazz and bkues in music and about movies ,but not about big brother etc uh oh mumbling
@lindz
political convers r my favorite ,as greek lol,but if u want to see my opinion ab the WWII check my pics on my profile ,just keeping on ur mind i am . left wing oriented politically wow peace
"patriotism is very different from culture,so specify the topic"

Patriot = to love your country and to defend it when you get invaders and not to occupy other countries,by doing this you will be the aggressor.

Culture = traditions,religions,ways of life,music,languages etc.The US is a mixed country,in fact is "assembled""gathered" people.Originally from Europe.

And they adapt Greeks and Egyptians and some of the Mesopotamians heritage and sell it back to the world.sigh
In other word they are proud of others histories but don't show that,specially in the movies grin do they do that on purpose,yes.popcorn
Share, weep doh drinking drinking drinking mumbling

Lindz - I think we're all feeling the affects of "modern culture".

Entertainment and marketing and street signs and sidewalks and doorknobs and cell phones. All of these things are being shared throughout the world because it just works best this way (for those doing the sharing).

Traditions everywhere are fun/cool/interesting. Most of the traditions here (US) came with the immigrants. We don't have as much home-grown culture because we're a younger society.

But- as pointed out, jazz and blues ... country/western music ... NASCAR ... (American) football ... baseball ... "Southern Cooking" and New Jersey Diners (a type of restaurant) would be part of our (own) culture. yay

I also believe culture should continue to change over time ... not to become like someone else, but to continue to define ourselves. I'm not concerned with traditions changing... just as long as each group maintains something that honors the contributions of their ancestors. thumbs up
lindz .the whole thing is like a hot potato and now u have it on ur hands ,let me tell u something we experience in greece now.people try to find what unites them ,cause its the only way to avoid the civil war here
lindz

You can just change the title to "The US culture" and the next topic can be about the patriotism buddies popcorn cheers
great answer inthemind... glad to have people like you here he he he... almost had to delete this and put up an appoligy blog.
but yes i think you sortof put into words what i wanted to say.

the european cultures is great! there are so many people in such a small space yet all those different countries are so unique, just like in south africa, we have 11 diferent official languages and so many different cultures yet everyone of those are unique and pure.

then when you look at the way america influences the world it makes you wonder. in aus i turned on the tv and found comedy central fox an other american networks the same in s.a. and the same in europe.

i dont want to live in a world where no matter where i go im in america.
u cant avoid being an american ,but to a point.its up to u to keep ur culture and ur habits and ur history along with external influencescheers
i try to so hard blue but if no one is with you its hard...
have you been at word talking about programs ot music and the only thing you have in comon with your co workers is american culture?
i have.
listen to afrikaans utch german and swedish music almost exclusively the same with programs, but talking to my co workers all they know is american programing and music.
i found the same all over the world.
i travel to experience other cultures... but those lines are getting very blured.
Blue - Some version of every culture finds it's way here. New York City is a prime example ... as is Toronto and others ... walk a couple of blocks in any direction and you'll be exposed to a different culture (most evident in the markets and restaurants you find). handshake

Live anywhere long enough and you should see change ... and many aren't comfortable when the area doesn't feel the same as it once did. Much of that is just normal progress ... but if the big sign you see is "McDonalds" or "KFC" ... you might easily equate the change with America. It's part of the answer, of course, but often gets talked about like it's the entire reason for a changing world. sigh
yip inthemind, even in our stock markets i spend half my time reading up on the american market, i even need to know the american market rythems.
and when the american market opens i need to be out because we drop! that is around 2 o clock here.

Hey Lindz - I'll chime back in ... on stock markets. Something I follow myself, but just for myself (not for my job).

Currency exchanges have been of interest to me lately ... they help me understand our different economies. I've had conversations with folks on CS about normal expenses are... and rent and typical income... and following the exchange rates I can get an understanding of how things look differently from their perspective. professor A good education. thumbs up
inthemind... its sooo interesting, i play virtual money on the jse (johanisburg stock exchange) you knew that probebly. i get up at 5 each morning and study the markets (the ones i have invested interest in) that and world finacial news, what the asdek and american markets closed on and what we closed on i play with derivatives etc. but only day trading on jse for now... once i have that down i will try my hand at forex ;)

always good to keep yourself stimulated mentaly even if you have nothing to gain from it.

well you always have something to gain from intelect.
Lindz << Smart guy. cheers

I agree ... best to learn with virtual money ... I've done both ... emotions affect me differently when using actual money, so I'm learning from that too. handshake
