Do You Remember The Cinema Serials

You have all heard of the soapy serials on Tv, well long before that the cinemas had what is called a movie serial (action/adventure) back even to the silent era in 1914 when you had 'Perils of Pauline' right up to the last serials in 1956, 'Blackhawks' the idea was they would create these cliffhangers to support main cinema features to draw people back each week to see what happened to there favourite hero when he is left in a precarious situation, the same idea was also used in radio serials that were transmitted on airwaves, another form was the newspaper comics, they all had the same roots, can you recall any of these old serials, a lot came to Tv in the 1960's and even later years in many parts of the world, most serials were in 12 or 15 chapter formats and ran from 15-20 minutes in length. So let's take a nostalgic look back in time on this fun blog. cool cheering yay

Hi Ken19, Thanks for joining my blog a second time, I thought I would write about the serials but I don't mind including other nostalgia too, Hoppalong Cassidy was a favourite, as was Gene Autry, Tex Ritter, and many other cowboy greats and surprisingly George 'Gabby' Hayes was partner to many people including Roy Rogers and of course Hoppalong Cassidy, who also had a tv series as did Roy Rogers and Gene Autry (Flying A Productions) Gene Autry show/Range Rider/Buffalo Bill Jr./Annie Oakley and Champion the Wonder Horse. Do they ring a bell Ken, Hoppalong Cassidy was shot in the leg in an early western which supposedly gave him the limp and of course the name 'Hoppie'. Buck Rogers came to life a second time in 1979 (Gil Gerard) but we can't forget Buster Crabbe as the Sci Fi specialist Buck Rogers & Flash Gordon, he also appeared as an Olympic swimmer in the 1930's when he swam against Johnny Weismuller,(TVs Jungle Jim) both played Tarzan along with original Elmo Lincoln, Herman Brix and many others. handshake peace professor
