In the US Christmas can be a long holiday if it falls on a Thursday. Most employers will give Friday off too. If Christmas is on a Saturday or Sunday, again, most employers will give Monday off.
People do programs at church and things like that. Or a city will have a concert or play. Then there are the company Christmas parties and the personal Christmas parties as well.
Many people will just gather and go "caroling". That means they will stroll from block to block, house to house or even go to a mall and sing Christmas songs!
