You know that Indonesia also celebrate the Lunar New Year on January 31, 2014. Although I am not Chinese, but I celebrated too. I did the "open house" so that everyone can come to my home and enjoy all the food I serve.while shaking my hands, my friend looked surprised and asked me :
F : Hey .... Happy New Year naaa .... long life and wish all the best for you ....
M : thank you my friend ..
F : I just wonder why you are celebrating the lunar new year, is your father Chinese?
M : oohh no, my father is not Chinese
F : oohh ... ya mean your mother is a Chinese ...
M : not either ... my parents are Indonesian
F : So, for whom the celebration if you are not Chinese then? ...
M : my family's mobile phones are made ??in china ....
please don't be offended, I am just joking...

It's not and never has been. The Mexican Independence Day is September 16th. But the American beer industry needed another beer guzzling day so they named it "Cinco de Mayo" and a new Mexican holiday was born right here in the U. S.!!
So there you have it. You don't have to be Chinese to celebrate the Chinese New Year and you don't have to be Mexican to celebrate the "Mexican independence day".
You just have to be a beer drinker!
