Ancient clam farming

A new study published in the journal PLOS ONE, has revealed that indigenous people in Canada had superior ways for harvesting clams and molluscs compared to methods used today. Their ancient method, which involved building rock-walled terraces known as clam gardens, produced four times as many clams than natural beaches. The study authors claim the method could be used to nurture today’s food security.

We do breed like bunnies here jst so you know , thinking its the pilsner beer rolling on the floor laughing and oh ya Canada does Rock applause
I just dont understand why people would want to eat a terrible tasting tiny clam .....when there's plenty of other fish in the sea that taste far better ....wave
butterflies .its cold in Canada, ruins a Man`s image ,tho the beer idea sounds good laugh
virgo ,cause its exotic to eat strange things...and wear weird looking clothes...
laugh
I think an old shoe would taste far better wave
@vix weather here may be cold, but sorta like water off a ducks back, insulated, 3 layers, that's how our ducks survive, as we do, we don't feel the cold, and that's called being Canadian, we are calloused and never feel the cold, triples off like a soft water fall dancing

but yup the beer is cold and good, jst throw a 12 pack in a snow bank and you good to go drinking
About 20km's west of where I live is a secluded beach with an abundance of the huge white mussel. Mussels always served cooked and are usually steamed in a white wine broth but may also be combined with other dishes. thumbs up
back in the old days those rock walls would trap fish so the natives could catch them ...and they would crush the clams to attract the fish ....wave
Dedo, those our very tasty clams..sorry Virgo but our taste is so inherent to those tiny clams, although here in the west coast, Santa Maria, we have bigger than our palms.

Tasty and nutritious.

Hi my dearest butterfly. what is cooking? Love you myf riend..
If you don't like to eat them, those molluscs make excellent bait. cheers
they must be farmed in a specialised environment under strict regulations
as they are filter feeders and are very susceptible to pollutants. They could easily kill you if tainted.

But any new methods to increase food productivity is pretty cool news thumbs up
