Indian Princess

About 500 years ago horses came to North America and changed the life of the Indians. Spanish horses came first and the word "mustang" goes back to spanish "mestengo", something like a vagabond. An old early mustang breed is the "Sulphur", which still may be found under the 30.000 wild horses in the west today.
American races with english and other blood emerged later like the American quarter horse and the Appaloosa of the Nez Perce Indians.
In Oregon nowadays an annual meeting is held, called the Indian Princess Pendleton Round-up. See picture. No wonder the US cavalry slaughtered these horses and Indians, because they were jealous about their beauty.

Nice Blog......grin ...
Before the white man interfered....i'm sure the life of the Indians was pretty idealic....peace
if it would be that easy...
they had lots of space around them then, but enemies and warfare were common, too.
u probably would have had to eat mushrooms to survive sometimes and no dentist around for pain relief.
but they were very capable using what they had and crafting nice gear, real artisans.
under the conditions we nowadays live in there is a dimension missing, which allows this obviously.
instead there are car crashes and insurance to be paid, law and order everywhere around the corner which makes people feel stressed and unhappy.
who is rich? a car owner, who has to buy petrol and repairs or a horseowner, who has enough land where horses can graze and multiply?
The car owner who has heat in the car vs. the person trying to snuggle up to the horse when the temp drops below 4 F and the wind howls.
Being a nomad......living with several generations of your family....little need for money and luxuries which means less stress......it certainly wasn't perfect, but they didn't know any different......
The natives were much darker than that
