"Do not judge so that you will not be judged. "For in the way you judge, you will be judged; and by your standard of measure, it will be measured to you. "Why do you look at the speck that is in your brother's eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye?
So King, do you follow every rule in the scriptures, and have never broken any?
This topic of conversation is a little archaic...you probably need to go back to school...from my understanding...religion should be about forgiveness and love...you are preaching to the wrong choir here...JMO...

Hi Lulu83, awesome questions, I hope to give you my answers according to what I believe and based on what I understand in Gods'Word.
I don't know what churches you attend or have been a part of in your area, but I have not found churches who are not teaching these things in my area... Holiness is not a "form of godliness", holiness is the rel deal, a righteous heart behavior and spiritual attitude abiding in Christ before God. Many people especially some women, think wearing the long dresses, no make up, no smoking or drinking, and on and on is being holy, but that's not holiness, etc. Nor does this determine a person as being holy in living or walking in holiness. So what is your church teaching you in your area about holiness? What does it mean to be holy and what is holiness? Thank I would like to hear what you have learned in this.
To answer your question in short form: Firstly, we are separated from the world because we had a mustard seed of faith to believe and receive the message of the Gospel, and believe in the suffering death on the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ and know that our sin debts have been paid if full, this alone sets us apart from the world as a Christian believer.
Second thing, that sets us apart from the world is that we have the indwelling power of the Holy Spirit living on the inside of us upon repentance of our sins who is regenerating us and making us pure and acceptable before God everyday, cleansing us from all our unrighteousness daily. This is something that we can't do for ourselves, it is His job to cleanse us make us right before God. And the glow of His light is or should be shining forth on our faces because we have been set aside/apart from the world, and Hid presence should be seen on our faces as we walk as best we can in the fruit /character of Christ.
Thirdly, we are identified from the world by the confess and profession of our faith, and our life-style. Many hide Christians who believe in Christ, hide behind doors and do their dirt, and in public they put on a front, for the world. Jesus says, we will be known as born again Christians by our fruit, which are our good works and our life-style, this sets us apart from the world. Paul tell us in Romans chapter 1 and chapter 2, that many who say they are Christians agree with the sins of others out of many reasons and they judge others Christians falsely just to keep friendships, or because a person is a family member. He also says, the Christian who does this, is just as guilty as the sinner who commits those sins God calls sins, if a person stands in agreement with sin, they too shall be judge. Knowing when and how to judge righteously as a Christian this should sets us apart from the world when we no longer place ourselves in such positions.
Fourthly, Paul ask the question: should we continue to sin so that grace might abound? God forbid, he answers... he goes on to says as Christians sin should not have control over us, but until we have been completely washed from ALL our willful sins, we continue under grace, and NOW, RIGHT NOW, there is therefore no condemnation for those who love the Lord and are in Christ Jesus, because of repentance. No, we are to no longer live in the sins of the old man, before the world or behind close doors. We must make sure we are walking upright in all things and in right standing before God in the new man.
Sometimes we think we've got it together and right, but we really don't. And the Apostle Paul Paul teaches us much about our behavior as Christians in I Corinthians chapter 5.
Hope this answered your question you asked of me,I'm long winded so Ihad to chop it down about six time...

He is not going to listen...sadly he is misguided here...your smoking is only a way for him to disengage in the topic of conversation...
