How are drivers and operators selected your countr

Since this is one of my areas of speciality... I can't resist for asking...

In SA, in some dangerous sectors, such as mining, transport and construction, we assess also the drivers and operators psychomotoric abilities, such as ...eye, hand foot coordination, the ability to manage a stressful situation, ability to concentrate in monotonous circumstances and the ability to see signals outside the normal peripheral field. We have norms and a risk profile is created for every applicant. These risks are thus managed as part of a safety strategy to ensure that incidents and accidents are minimised. This is besides the normal training and licensing process that also take place.

I am curious, do you have similar practices in your country or sectors in your country or are drivers and operators selected primarily on training and reference/track record? teddybear

not sure but I think here in usa whoever is willing to drive

27/30hrs non-stopping is fit for duty/I have no ideaconfused
h loneely under safety health and welfare at work act 2005 in ireland it is a legal requirement to train employees in manual handling to prevent back injuries in the workplace and this has to be done every 3 years i think this program should extended to national school kids from 12 upwards so this would reduce the risk injurt if trained at a young age in proper lifting technique
We've an ongoing shortage of truck drivers here in the U.S.

While they are required to go through some training(I think it's about 2 weeks?) they don't need to be physically gifted in any way.
If he can still stand after 13 beers then he's fit to drive anything beer
As far as I can tell here in Spain potential truck drivers are sorted into two groups, those that are courteous & can keep the truck on correct side of the road & those that can't, the ones who can are then eliminated from the process doh mind this deduction is from experience only grin
