The God squad.

It's clear that our beliefs in God can provide great strength and comfort to many souls. Soldiers in combat, loss of a loved one, other personal challenges, etc. But today I heard a radio program with a gaggle of (?well fed) clerics being interviewed on the subject. Fine and dandy, until they all started trying to tell the world what God thinks, or wants, or plans, etc. It strikes me as the height of arrogance (look up the traditional meaning of the word) for mere humans to be claiming such insight. All the worse is being paid to do so. If the Creator really is the moving force behind all the many wonders we see, how can we possibly assume to know what she's thinking? Sting had it right. Poets, priests and politicians, have words to thank for their positions,---when their elegance escapes us, their logic (ties us up and) rapes us. Aa.

Yes arrogance of those men for sure........
The only way we can know what the Lord wants or thinks, is through His word. wave
God is a spirit. A Holy Spirit therefor not any gender.

Read the bible if you don't believe in pastors. If the pastor (prophet) is false you will be able t detect it from God's Holy Word, the bible! God never intended for pastors or so-called priests to interpret for you UNLESS you were ignorant.

If they are responsible then they are to teach (Rabbi) and not force false teachings on you!
Growth in spirituality is realizing, as Ed said, that God is spirit, can be found in all His creation, and within our hearts. teddybear gift cheers
Actually, what those guys were doing is the real idolatry: creating a god in one own's image, thing that is opposite to what a true religious/spiritual path should do.

Actually, the Old Testament is a fine timeline representation of the struggle of man on this path. The symbols are extremely powerful and human weakness is surfacing all the time from the sacred writing. What the clergy of the kind (as in the radio show) is doing today, has to do with a man-made created system, not with God. Eventually, it makes me think all the time at the whole supposed 'church' concept. In this aspect, the movie Stigmata makes a point in the end :)

Karen Armstrong, the historian of religion I referred above, has an awesome book: A History of God, dealing with this aspects of religions. There is also a documentary made after it:
