In real life ~ When a person says did you hear about .....I do my best to stop myself [the bad part of myself] from being excited by the prospect of, what inevitably is Gossip. Now we all gossip, just a tad, but i am speaking of malicious gossip. The only way to stop it, is not to listen to it. Stop it in it's tracks. Put your hand up and say politely 'I don't want to know' ~ most gossips are lonely people with not much in their lives.
As for the truth of a story ? There is My version, your Version and the True version.
I remember my Grandmother, she hired a man to the Gardens as they were large, this man was abit shady looking but she helped him, actually taught him all about Roses and how to prune them, and he was a good hard worker. He was always grateful for his dinner, and treated us with respect.
Next thing ~ A neighbour, who was a very devout 'Christian' told my grandma that this man had only just come out of Jail a few months prior, having served a few years for a big robbery.
My grandmother quickly replied 'Well isn't that more of a reason to give the man a start in life ?
