US Supreme Court rejects Trump disqualification case

US Supreme Court rejects Trump disqualification case
A long-shot candidate from Texas tried to have the former president barred from seeking re-election over stance on “insurrection”

he US Supreme Court has rejected an attempt by a Texas Republican to prevent former President Donald Trump from seeking office again in 2024 over his alleged role in the January 6, 2021 riot on Capitol Hill.

The case was dismissed without any comment by the court on Monday. It had been brought by Texas-based tax consultant John Anthony Castro, who claimed in a Florida court that the US Constitution’s 14th Amendment – which prohibits those who have “engaged in insurrection or rebellion” or “given aid or comfort” to insurrectionists from holding office – bars Trump from contesting the 2024 presidential election.

Castro claimed that Trump’s statements of support for the rioters who disrupted the certification of Joe Biden’s 2020 victory on Capitol Hill in January 2021 amounted to a violation of this provision.

The case was dismissed by the Florida court and made its way to the Supreme Court after an unsuccessful appeal at the 11th US Circuit Court of Appeals in Georgia.

Castro is currently seeking the Republican Party’s nomination for next year’s election, although he is little-known and his name rarely features on any polls.

His legal argument is shared by several groups of Democratic activists who are currently attempting to keep Trump’s name off ballots in their states by invoking the 14th Amendment. Cases have been filed in Colorado, Michigan, and Minnesota, with the Colorado and Minnesota cases set to go to trial in the coming months.

Although Trump is facing dozens of criminal charges in four separate state and federal cases, he has not been charged with insurrection. Moreover, while the January 6 protest has been termed an “insurrection” by liberal politicians and pundits, none of the thousand-plus participants who were charged in relation to the demonstration have been indicted for rebellion or insurrection, which would require the Justice Department to prove that they had gone to the Capitol with the intent of overthrowing the government.

Hahaha,Beer-Can Bearing Trump's Mug-Shot Hits Major Milestone: CEO

Beer-Can Bearing Trump's Mug-Shot Hits Major Milestone: CEO

A beer brand that was launched earlier this year as an alternative to Bud Light amid a months-long boycott has shattered its own company records by marketing a special edition can that featured former President Donald Trump's mug shot, according to the company's head.
Embedded image from another site

Ultra Right Beer CEO Seth Weathers told Fox News last week that the special edition can was launched after President Trump's mug shot was taken in August after he was indicted in Fulton County, Georgia, on racketeering and other charges stemming from his activity following the 2020 election.

Mr. Weathers told Fox Business that sales of the limited edition offering have amounted to more than five tractor-loads of cans, saying that it's now the "most sought-after collector beer can in American history."

"We knew people would go wild over these collector cans, but we had no idea the response would be this crazy," he said in a recent statement, adding that sales of the beer would top $2 million by 11:59 p.m. on Oct. 1 when it's taken off the market.

Sales of the can "have poured in from the moment we launched," Mr. Weathers said. "With over $1 million in beer and merchandise sales, we’ve raised over $50,000 for the legal defense of the Georgia Trump electors and the Georgia Republican Party. Conservative Dad’s Ultra Right Beer puts our money where our mouth is—we’re doing our part to fight back against the unjust persecution of American patriots."

The company touts its product as "100 percent American beer," according to its website, and states that 10 percent of the beer's sales will be donated to the Georgia Republican Party legal defense fund and the David Shafer Legal Defense Fund.

As for President Trump, the 2024 presidential candidate's campaign released mug-shot-inspired gear in August that included T-shirts, coffee mugs, and beer holders. Hours after the mug shot was taken at the Fulton County Courthouse, the former president posted the image on his X (formerly known as Twitter) account—the first and only time he's done so since he was allowed back on the platform after his account was suspended in January 2021.

President Trump's mug shot merchandise was still available on his website on Oct. 1.

Hunter Biden's Daughter Was Living In White House While Representing Peruvian Government

The Biden family may have some more explaining to do over their international affairs, after the NY Post reports that Naomi Biden (Hunter's eldest daughter, not the grandchild Joe Biden mouth-kissed during the 2020 election), was living in the White House while representing the government of Peru in a legal case.
According to a review of public records, the 29-year-old has been working for DC-based law firm Arnold & Porter since January 2021, the same month her grandfather was sworn in as the 46th US president, after interning for the firm in 2019.

In September 2021, Naomi appeared in a legal filing disclosing her involvement in a case brought by Worth Capital Holdings 27, LLC, a Delaware firm which claimed that the country was interfering in the operation of their oil refinery located in the southern Amazon. Worth has sought $590 million in damages.

Of note, Arnold & Porter specializes in foreign litigation, and has defended dozens of sovereign states - including Venezuela, Bulgaria and Hungary. Interestingly, the Post notes that Naomi doesn't have a public page on the firm's website, unlike other firm attorneys.

Which begs the question, particularly in light of questions over the entire Biden family's foreign dealings, should Naomi have registered under FARA (Foreign Agents Registration Act)? That would of course depend on the circumstances and extent of her work.

"Everywhere we look it seems there are major conflicts of interest in which the Biden family leveraged their name, access, and patriarch’s power to benefit personal business dealings. All of this must continue to be investigated and exposed – perhaps Biden’s granddaughter should be the next person to come before the Oversight Committee,”

In November 2022, Naomi Biden married another up-and-coming attorney, Peter Neal, at a ceremony at the White House.

The Biden granddaughter lived at the first residence from August 2022 to March 2023. A rep for Naomi Biden insisted she only worked on the case for “three weeks” in September 2021 — and not while living at the White House. -NY Post

"Naomi Biden’s international arbitration work doesn’t include matters involving the United States government — she is a junior lawyer and a member of international arbitration teams involving private sector plaintiffs. She doesn’t discuss confidential client work with anyone inside or outside the White House," a spokesman for Arnold & Porter told The Post, while the law firm wouldn't say if Naomi had represented any other foreign nations since joining.

The Post also notes that Naomi had quite the nice ride to the elite law firm - having attended the capital's elite Sidwell Friends School in the summer of 2011 while Joe Biden was Vice President. She then worked as an aide for then-Majority Leader Sen. Harry Reid (D-NV).

More recently, Naomi was pictured and videotaped posing with Burisma CEO Mykola Zlochevsky, and having a conversation with his daughter, Karina Zlochevsky.

"She is very excited to join us. Maybe we can find her a job now that she’s graduating college," Hunter Biden wrote to Burisma CFO, Vadym Pozharsky, according to emails from his abandoned laptop, the Post further reports.

What a small world!

House GOP report faults Nancy Pelosi for Jan. 6 security failures

Miranda Devine
House Republicans issued a scathing report Wednesday exposing House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s key role in the catastrophic security and intelligence failures that left the US Capitol vulnerable to a violent attack on January 6, 2021.

Days after Pelosi’s Jan. 6 select committee recommended insurrection charges against former president Donald Trump over the Capitol riot, Republicans have hit back with a counter-investigation apportioning blame for the internal security breakdown on Jan. 6 to Pelosi and a dysfunctional Capitol Police intelligence division.

“Leadership and law enforcement failures within the U.S. Capitol left the complex vulnerable on January 6, 2021,” says the report, which is based on a trove of texts and email messages, and testimony from Capitol Police leaders and rank-and-file officers.

House Sergeant at Arms Paul Irving, who answered to Pelosi as one of three voting members of the Capitol Police Board, “succumbed to political pressures from the Office of Speaker Pelosi and House Democrat leadership,” was “compromised by politics and did not adequately prepare for violence at the Capitol.”

Pelosi and her staff “coordinated closely” with Irving on security plans for the Joint Session of Congress on Jan. 6, but Republicans were deliberately left out of “important discussions related to security.”

And, in an apparent attempt to hide from Republicans the fact that they were being excluded from discussions, Irving asked a senior Democratic staffer to “act surprised” when he sent “key information about plans for the Joint Session on Jan. 6, 2021, to him and his Republican counterpart.”

The staffer replied sardonically: “I’m startled!”

The report also claims that “staff within the House Sergeant at Arms office emailed Paul Irving that January 6th was Pelosi’s fault,” although it provides no evidence for the assertion.

When Irving was forced to resign after the riot, an email from an unnamed staffer in his office criticized Pelosi’s “knee-jerk reaction to yesterday’s unprecedented event” and described his resignation as “spectacularly unjust, unfair, and unwarranted. This is not your fault. Or [Capitol Police chief Steven] Sund’s fault.”

The Republicans responsible for the withering report — Jim Banks (R-IN), Jim Jordan (R-OH), Rodney Davis (R-IL), Kelly Armstrong (R-ND) and Troy Nehls (R-TX) — are the five congressmen originally nominated to sit on the Jan. 6 committee, until Pelosi vetoed Banks and Jordan. House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy pulled the rest of his nominees in protest. Pelosi then installed two Never Trump Republican outcasts, Liz Cheney, and Adam Kinzinger.

Given Pelosi’s assiduous grooming of Cheney, no doubt it suited both their interests to focus the final Jan.6 committee report on Trump — and not on Pelosi’s culpability.

But now the Republicans Pelosi rejected have skewered her in their rival report, dredging up some of what she tried to hide, despite complaining of obstruction from the personnel she controls.
The report insinuates that the Speaker left the Capitol Police without backup on Jan. 6 because “widespread concern from Democratic leadership over ‘optics’ in the aftermath of the Summer 2020 ‘Black Lives Matter’ protests prevented early deployment of the National Guard.”

What will Russia become after Putin is gone?

No one is immortal. Not even the 'great' Putin. I found this discussion on YouTube today and found it interesting. Hopefully others will too.
<Discussions I believe to be off the topic of what replaces Putin's rule will be deleted. If you want to comment about what about after Biden, or Trump, or how Ukraine is not winning, go write your own blog and we can discuss it there. This one is about after Putin only.>

15 in the race.

I saw a list of all the ones running for POTUS! A radio talk show host. An entrepreneur, an author, an activist scholar. Sheesh..they crawl out of the wood work! Granted we already had an actor. But, he came up through the ranks. And another actor and a wrestler who were Governors. And as far as I see, good at it.
Why do people with little claim to fame think they are capable of dealing with the baloney of DC?
The masses never heard of them. They have no money and politics is a rich mans game.
Anyone remember Pat Paulson? Lynden Laruche. Pat Davis? Other also rans?
Meanwhile the same old guard gets back in. They have the backers and cash and know who to bribe and blackmail.tongue

I see this as an 'age old' problem...

I see this as an 'age old' problem, in getting our (old) lawmakers pass new laws that limit the age (or term duration) to members of congress and senate.
That's not likely to happen.

81 year old senator Mitch McConnell had a 2nd 'freeze' in public. He took a fall recently and appears to have other issues. Maybe more blackouts when no one is around?
This morning I read he's been checked out by a doctor and found to be okay.
Okay to who? A complete medical test in 24 hours... I think not.

Dianne Feinstein is 90 and semi-coherent to the point she has to be coaxed to say 'aye' when it's time for a vote.

If they won't vote themselves out of a job... who will?
