NYC has been functionally dead for decades. No one making money big time chooses it as their primary residence. The Democrats have been doing everything they can to encourage what are called by them (UUltral low income residents' for a long time. They prefer those who are already US citizens because those can be registered to vote Democrtat in a Presidential election, but those not a citizen can vote in lesser elections for such things as a Mayor, Council member, Judge, or state assemblyman. Those perpetually unemployed persons are given free housing in crime infested apartment complexes, free cable TV and Internet, free clothing, ready access to Methadone, food stamps and also given constant reminders before filling out their voter registration cards that all these things flow from Democrats and Republicans would both want them to pay rent and get a job.

I grew up in a lovely Queen Anne style Victorian era 6 bed room, 3 floor house (plus a not counted full basement) on a block full of such buildings. /14 acre yards, 2 car garages, etc. About 5 or 6 years ago a developer gave all of the property owners a Million each (made me sad I had sold mine a few years before) and the city bought all that land, bulldozed all the houses away and put up a 800 unit Ultra Low Income Housing building that covers that whole block. The crime rate in my old neighborhood had climbed so high by 1994 the cops in the 44 called it Jungle Habitat with at least 2 murdera per block every 2 weeks. There are no more such Victorian era buildings in the Bronx of NYC. NYC's City Hall hates privately owned dwellings with large yards. The politician's only goal is tear it down and replace that single family structure with a multi hundred unit full of very or Ultra low income voters who vote Democrat.

The current problem in NYC is a case of more success than they can handle as people without money are arriving faster than they can be placed, while at the same time large blocks of land usable for super housing buildings have already been taken away by the city.

What I witnessed was in the era of Clinton and Obama. NYC has been Democrat dominated for decades. Nothing has changed/
