Disappointment

Been and paddled: -5 (feels like -8), NW 3m/s, full sun shine. It can’t be better on the last day of January. A few strokes and you are gliding into vastness and stillness of the fjord, it’s only you and a few birds, who are still inhabiting the place. The mundane boredom of the past week – gone. The pain of the wrecked hip – gone. You made it again: you are on the water and moving and no one around…

…well, no one, except your companion, who fancies himself a singer and who happened to own the kayak, you are paddling in, and it all can go to hell any given moment, if you don’t contain yourself.
Which you usually do.

Success is not given. An obstacle is expected at every step of the enterprise: the garage door might get stuck so that you can’t manage it and there’s nothing else to do, but to abort the journey. The traffic might get stuck for so long, that there’s nothing else to do, but to abort the journey. The car is old, to put it mildly, so no comments. The ice at the perch might be too thick, that there’s nothing else to do, but to abort the paddling. Yes, you drove 110 km (the route includes a ferry) and there’s nothing else to do, but to turn around and go home. It is in the calculus and you’ve prepared to face it as a grown-up.

But when you made it and on… When you on the water and paddling… When you are already made the first third of the trip, just got that “at least!” feeling, when the tension started to seep off you and relaxation on its way… Your companion says: “There’s fog and we are to turn around and paddle as fast as possible to get from it.”

Wut? It’s a sea smoke, goossake man!, and there’s no wind, no waves, no boats and we have GPS in my mobile.

Goose – facking sake – and he insisted and I turned around.

The very first paddling that’s a complete disappointment. 7 km in 2 hours and I hated the last half of it. Pure primordial hate.

Saw a fox on the way back.

2 Great football games today !

Green Bay & Aaron Rodgers host Tampa Bay & Tom Brady

and

Kansas City & Patrick Mahomes host Buffalo & Josh Allen

I'm picking Tampa and KC. (However, I'm rooting for GB over TB)

No matter who wins, they should be some good games.
If I were to bet, it would be KC over Buffalo.

"The Game"

I went to the model airfield this morning to fly helicopters. Miserable winds gusting to 20 miles per hour made it better to sit under the shade and BS with the other pilots there. Two guys had their scale models out today, both were of the Aérospatiale Gazelle and one was in the yellow rescue paint scheme.

They only fly them once or twice doing very conservative scale-like maneuvers... nothing risky as a few completed models are valued upwards of $20,000.

One guy packed up early and I said "Are you leaving?"
His response was "Yeah, I gotta get home to watch the game"

My first thought was 'the game? you must mean the president and republicans refusal to accept the certified elections results?'

When I got home and turned on the TV, I see it was the Miami Dolphins football game he must have been talking about.

Different game.

2 Ohio football players suspended for waving 'thin blue line, 'thin red line' flags at game

Even though they're no longer suspended, they should have never been suspended in the first place! very mad

Two football players at Little Miami High School have been placed back on active status after being suspended from practice for carrying a "thin blue line" flag and "thin red line" flag across the field before their game on Sept. 11.

School officials said in a statement Tuesday the students did not get permission from district officials to carry the flags on the field and that's why they were suspended from practice while they investigated the incident.

"School administrators must act when students break the rules, and these students were suspended from practice while the incident was investigated," Little Miami Local School Board of Education President Bobbie Grice said in a statement Tuesday.

Following the investigation, Grice said they found there were no political motivations behind the display of support for first responders, however they still broke the rules by not getting permission to carry the flags.

The players have been placed back on active status and the incident will be addressed as an Athletic Department Code of Conduct issue by coaching staff.

"Little Miami Local Schools is saddened to see this story take such a negative turn. The district enjoys an outstanding relationship with our local police and fire agencies," Grice said. He went on to reference an event they had later in the day in honor of the anniversary of 9/11.

"As the season continues, the only two flags that will come through the Little Miami football tunnel are the flag of the United States of American and the Little Miami spirit flag. The Board of Education supports this decision of district administration," Grice said.

The incident has since been shared all over social media, capturing the attention of President Donald Trump's son, Donald Trump Jr. who tweeted, saying "It's outrageous that these students were punished for celebrating our amazing police officers. They showed real courage standing up for what they thought was right."

No one for TENNIS...

I watched a men's tennis tournament last weekend from an undisclosed private court in Palm Beach County.
All I could see was the 2 players and a chair umpire. I didn't see a line umpire. There were no ball boys or other people on the court. Less than 10 people sitting in chairs under tents at least 50 feet away from the court. The tall fence around the court had dark green wind breaker screen so the players were without distraction.
Boom cameras were at the ends of the event and only peered over the top of the fence.

This was a real tournament, but an official match tennis like I've not seen before.

Today, it was women's tennis. Same court.

Sure I've seen practice sessions, took lessons, played on private courts many times.
This tennis was pure-player without the anger, crowd pleaser and emotions of people watching and cheering. I actually enjoyed it more!

Between play, they did a drone view from a few hundred feet and you can see it's a single court in someone's back yard. Maybe 3 acres of land with 20 cars in a row line along the back. No doubt, from the video crew players and coaches.

Except for the players, everyone was wearing an N95 mask.

Mask Up...

We already know the White House has been hit by COVID-19 and it's become the most tested place in the world right now. Trump and Pence have refused to wear face masks. I already brought up a possibility (other than stupidity) why they would be so bold as to do as I say and not as I do and continue... but. But, if the president and the vice-president are stricken with COVID-19 and required to be admitted to ICU, that would leave the Speaker of the House next in line to the Oval Office.

laugh

Uhh... do they know this??

Maybe it's time to Mask Up.

I selected the blog category as sports... after all, who is running the country, or should I say who will be running the country?
