Doi Suthep- we arrived there very early in the morning to watch the sunrise on one of the highest peaks in Chiang Mai.
I went to Chiang Mai in 1997 with my then (first) husband. I took a picture standing at the exact same spot 27 years later. Seeing this picture collage, Art then commented, "You will take another one 27 years later with your 3rd husband!

Time to check out of the resort and fly back to Malaysia.
I tried the famous Khao Soi - a Northern Thai curry noodle, for the very first time.
To be honest, I prefer our very own Malaysian curry noodle. My daughter and I can have kari mee, as we Malaysians called it, for breakfast, lunch or even dinner! Just like with any other food, in Malaysia we don't care about the time or protocols, we eat whatever we want, wherever and whenever we want.

I frequently travel alone but from time to time miss a companion. I will be travelling to Prague at the end of May and would love a female companion for chat, drink/meal or anything else. Or even a local to show me around.

Changing my holiday destinations
Well.. One of them. I am still going to Italy this year and the US next year. It's the year after that, I am changing.
You may recall, a few blogs back, that I was going to the Philippines. I had a bit of a think earlier today, and I have decided to swap the Philippines for Japan. More specifically - Tokyo. I have always wanted to go to Japan on holiday, and now I have the opportunity to go there.
It's still a ways away, so lots of time to save up and plan what to see and do. I know someone in Japan, so I might ask that person to be my tour guide, unless that person suggests it by themselves.
But why do I want to go to one of the biggest cities in the World as a person who does not like big crowds? Well.. It's pretty simple: I want to learn how to be comfortable in big crowds. My trip to Italy and the US will definitely help towards making me more comfortable with a lot of people.
I have been in places with a lot of people before, but that was in a large open area. The biggest crowd I have been in was 120.000 people at a festival in the UK. The population of Tokyo, if you count the entire metro area? About 41 million..The city of Tokyo alone is 13.9 million.
So now it's pretty much settled: Italy later this year, the US next year and then it's off to Tokyo for a two week holiday. I just need to know how much the flight and hotel is, and how much spending money I need to bring with me. Lots of time to figure that one out, though..

Never Say Never
Damnoen Saduak floating market. I went there for the first time back in 2003 with my then husband, now my ex. My kids were probably 5 and 4 back then. My mom and stepdad volunteered to look after them while my ex and I ventured out for a day on our own.
The floating market was nothing at all what you saw in the advertisement pictures. Such a big letdown and disappointment that I vowed NEVER to ever pay money to go there again….
Until yesterday…

There’s only so much you can shop and eat while in Bangkok ( unless you shop at ‘Big C’ ) and I decided to do something different with Art and my kids. Damnoen Saduak floating market and Mae Klong railway market sounded like a good idea initially but I quickly realized my mistake
Hot, humid and very crowded. People jostled and pushed and I nearly punched ( yes I chose violent ) a Korean b*tch for trying to overtake me and in the process caused me to lose my balance and footing.

My GPS...
There are times when I think my GPS is working against me. Let's say I'm going to an appointment a few cities from me. I'll input the address and the GPS will calculate the distance, route, travel time and expected arrival time. That sounds good so far... This is what a GPS is supposed to do.
Usually, if there is an accident or delaying conditions, my GPS will notify me andusually sometimes offer a detour or 2nd route around the trouble.
Most times, I can guess the travel time to any new appointments and leave earlier than what the GPS has calculated, because it's important to arrive before a meeting, rather than late to one.
I don't do the speed limit. I'm not excessive, but 5 miles per hour over the posted limit is my normal. Unless, I'm in a zone that's a speed trap, 5mph more seems to be what most of the traffic around me will do.
What I don't understand about my GPS is when I'm in the express lane of the highway doing more than 20 miles per hour over the posted limit and I'm 'cranking it' for nearly half the way to my destination, with no delays or slow traffic holding me up... do I show up several minutes past the time it told me at the beginning of the trip.
It defaults to fastest route and there are times my GPS recommends a back road that takes me into a 30mph area and also a 20mph school zone. No, no, no, I'm taking the highway.
The GPS app is resident to my Android phone and I'm told Google updates on a regular basis which is different to the GPS in my car, so I use the cellphone GPS and the car GPS only for map functions and to alert me of posted speed zones.
Wouldn't you expect the GPS... any GPS to calculate duration based on posted speed limits and not what chatillion thinks he can get away with? Yeah, I didn't think so!

Making plans for my second trip to the US (part 1)
I know I am very early with this, but in October 2025, I will head back across the pond to the USA for my second trip there. This time, I am visiting a friend in New York, and now I know how much money I need to bring. The last time, I brought about $1300 with me - and I was left with $600 when I was home again. I didn't go completely wild with shopping, because i had no real sense of how expensive or cheap the US would be, but now I know. The next time I go, I am gonna spend a LOT more money than I did the first time around.
First, I need to find the price of the flight. I did economy the first time, and it was fine. I am thinking of doing the same thing again. I get there the same time as the other people, and we're on the same aircraft. Honestly, the only thing that's different is the food, and airline food is definitely bad. The food I god on my way to the US back in May was great. Chicken with mashed potatoes and vegetables. The food back... Well, that was awful. I didn't finish that.
I still have quite a while to go before my trip to the US, and before that, I have a trip to Italy planned. I just need to confirm with my friend where she wants to go, and when we're going to leave. I know it's gonna be a week, so we'll see where we end up.
But for now - my next USA adventure is being planned!
