Guys seem to be intimidated or just plain turned off by my need to be independent, and do things for myself, and have time to myself. Is my independent streak something I should down play until the guy gets to know me better?

Do you think that would work after the fact? Be who you are, you're bound to find someone just by being you.

Nothing wrong with being independant. I am extremely independant myself, and yes, it probably turns off guys, but, i guess it's knowing when to tone it down, something i am still learning.
I don't think it's a matter of playing it down until the guy gets to know you better. You are who you are. I do think it's more a matter of knowing when it's appropriate to be a little less independant, again, something i myself have difficulty with.
Good Luck

You probably need to let them get to like you the way you are. A lot of guys say they are looking for someone independent.

wave Maybe it's how it's coming across? i don't think we can change the people we are, that only causes problems later.

Could try explaining you enjoy your independance and like time to yourself, but find a balance you are both happy with?

No, I don't think you should...but you don't have to be "in your face" about it with them either. I'm also a strong, relatively independent woman who needs time to herself...and if I want a man to be my life partner, he's got to accept that part of me...and perhaps even have that need himself. What good would it do me to hide it? I need a match to my strength, and someone who also needs space so that we can give that to each other without any grudges or misunderstandings.

I'm also willing to work as a team, for that's what I believe a good relationship is...a partnership where you both work together, and balance each others strengths and weaknesses.

Good luck. Be you, and be patient, and the right man will come along when the timing is right. wine
