CaptainBeirutIII: It’s a cold world when there’s been a murder, and the police refuse to do anything about it!

I found the body earlier today myself. As I approached the spot I could see plenty of people were passing by, but none of them stopped and even looked at it.
What kind of cruel world are we not living in if there’s a dead body in the midst of a very populated street and no one even bothers to call the cops?

The body was well out in the open, you couldn’t miss it. Having watched CSI a few times I would estimate it had been dead half a day.

Dried out like a donut left out in the open overnight, the pigeon was lying on the ground with its feet up and beak towards the ground. Next to it were two pigeons minding their own business and strutting like nothing had happened. But I could spot something fishy straight away in the way they looked at me when I glared them straight into the eyes.

And you know, you always bloody know that the criminal(s) always go back to the crime scene, I’ve seen enough Columbo and Kojak to know this, so they would be my main suspect. They are.

How f* hard can it be, to just come down and interrogate these two bloody birds, but the local police refuse to have anything to do with it!

A pigeoncide has been committed.
I mean, it’s not likely that the pigeon had committed suicide, jumped off the roof above and killed itself! Someone obviously murdered it.

My bet is on the two love birds which were stood there on the very crime scene, so it’s probably some love drama, with the male bird (who I gave a special stern look), probably offing a rival.
You can’t get away with murder in my city! I will do something about this, and report back.

That was absolutely brilliant.... thoroughly entertained by that!! thumbs up

Thank you... cheers

Well, the violence does seem to be spreading. There are two robins on the neighbors roof who appear to be having a rather loud disagreement. Neither one is backing off....oh no, they've come to blows. Now it's wing to wing combat...one is assaulting the other!

Wait a minute...

blushing

those robins aren't fighting.....

Spring is definately here!

yay

I’m afraid that the investigation has so far lead to not bloody much. We still think, our prime suspect is still that pigeon from the crime scene, but how, we are reluctant to even guess.

However, there was something strange in the beak of the deceased one when the crime scene was sealed and a perimeter was made earlier today. Something was sticking out, and as I took it out, I could tell that it was a bit of barcode.
We don’t have the whole bar of it, it will take some time for the computer to do its run and come up with the list of possibilities where this barcode stems from, but you know, I have a suspicion it will have something to do with fried chicken.

This is really getting messy.
This crime, when solved, might become to prove to be one of the most vile and cruel in CS history!

You gotta get all Columbo on their butts.
Ask annoying questions. Hang around.
Wear a trenchcoat.
After about 45 minutes they usually break and confess.
Unless it's a 2 parter.

Raven0: When you approach them, just remember to look all passer-by like.
As if you just 'happened' to be there and just 'happened' to notice them.
Don't let on that you suspect. Always make it that you 'heard' a rumour that someone might know something.
You know.
Like You know that someone knows that they know.

It's going to be a tough one.
If I look into those eyes again of that male pigeon and see a Hitchcock kind of serial killer insane bird there, I don’t know if I can keep my calm and not have him take off before I get the police there.

You gotta be all nochalante.
Like the woman from Murder she wrote.

jlb684: What you need, Sir, is to find amongst them the stoolpigeon ... the one who will squawk. But watch them closely; I have heard that at least one of them is a jailbird.

WE HAVE A NEW SUSPECT!

This might break the case.

See, as I was walking up towards the crime scene the day before yesterday, a man dashed off around the corner. It just hit me now.
You know like in films when the main character has flashbacks and he rememberes details in scenes, and then it hits him?
Well, I just remembered that man making it around the corner and looking like he was in a hurry not to be seen by me, and the thing was he looked exactly like butlers do.

Ey, EY!?
Like a butler!

It wasn't that butler guy.

We're back to the main suspect being the wimman pigeon.

I should have frisked her, or something, because maybe, just maybe she held the weapon concealed under one of her wings.

I just want to warn you good people out there that we have another pigeon murder on our hands.

This time it was not an all grey like the previous, but one with speckled wings. It was laying next to a flattened Coke can, which might be some kind of mockery sign the murderer left.
They’re trying to investigate whether it can be, and taking claw prints, of course.

The interrogations with the previous suspects turned out dead ends, and now with a second dead bird within short time, within a hens walking distance, we are worried we might have a serial killer on our hands.
It’s still way too early to go down that path, but we’ve seen them before and this has all the early signs of one.

There’s been a third pigeon murder!
Only half a block from the first murder.
Another speckled one.

Two long tail feathers were torn off and positioned as a cross. It’s definitely leaning towards a serial killer, and one leaving weird religious signs.
A magpie was sat up in a birch looking down as I investigated the scene. I have him down as a suspect, as he was doing some sort of psycho laugh sound every now and then, while I was down there.

What you need now is an undercover agent. A human just wouldn't work, unfortunately....pigeons can spot a human a mile off. After all, it's no accident that they drop their nasty little bombs on us from above. They know full well what they're doing. No, what you need is another bird that can disguise itself as a pigeon and can tell you what it learns. Perhaps a small cockatoo or African grey. Ideally, if you could convince him to help, get Puck. He's a budgerigar who was credited by Guinness World Records as having the largest vocabulary of any bird, at 1,728 words. Or perhaps Sparkie Williams, a talking budgie who provided the inspiration for an opera performed in Berlin in March 2009. If you could put one of these fine birds in a pigeon suit and have him just sit around on a statue's head in some area where all the pigeons hang out, you might get somewhere.
Just hope that the bird's vocabulary isn't limited to "Pretty bird...pretty bird" or a slew of curse words that some 15-year old boy taught him to say.

As of now, three birds have met their untimely deaths. I'd be really curious to know if they were stoned to death and if one stone was used on all of them. I'd heard you could kill 2 birds with one stone...could it be that you can actually kill 3?
