In some cases we never know and we just have to judge by what info we get, however on some accounts I do own the absolute truth wich is undeniable and I am a philosopher by heart, so I like to dig until i own that truth if it is of import to me.professor

at some point, we learn to make our own judgements.and as we go through life we learn that although we are a product of our environment, we still have our own way of apart from what we were shown in the beginning.

What an interesting question.

For some it is true. They blame all that has gone wrong in their lives on their parents, ex partners, bad teachers, etc.

For others, they seek, learn, explore themselves and their feelings to steady them to a place where they can find peace and harmony.

Then of course, there are the ones who go out of their way to prove that what they have been shown is wrong and become the polar opposites of what influences they have been exposed to.

I agree - I see myself in the second group here. I seek and learn but I also use more than my sight to understand - that is only one of our senses.

No, it's not true on some levels but true for most people.

I've often understood new concepts that I always thought about before I was introduced to said new concepts.

It was like somebody stole my thoughts and theories...

Hi prairie...

I find this a fascinating discussion and one I really like. I have 122 students at my school and the ones that are shown true grounded love, without the crap of emotional neglect or overburdening are very easy to spot from the ones who are emotionally negelected and are burdened with the woes of their parents and the ones who have never had attention.

The ones who are raised on love and free to explore themselves as people, are the ones who have less illnesses. More time off sick is had by the ones who are seeking love and attention, given the fact it is a boarding school.

I find it quite fascinating.

Indeed very fascinating. It would be interesting to see where I fall in the groups - as I stated where I saw myself in your posting my childhood was not typical and I've spent a lot of time confronting demons to get where I am. Incidentally I did go to a boarding school for one year right in the middle of family upheaval....

I have actually looked at from my own point of view, I too was boarding school educated and we have the old BSS (Boarding School Syndrome)

It is a good study, I liked it and one we discuss as a faculty.
