The roaring 20's ushered in some new phrases relating to cats that are still used and enjoyed today.

A cool cat is someone who keeps up with all the latest fads and trends.

The cat's meow describes ideas that were truly " too cool for words. "

The cat's pajamas means the same thing, only no one seems to know why.

Have you heard the phrase a CAT'S PAW ?

This is a label for someone who has been taken advantage of and was not smart enough to cat - ch on. Experts say this saying has its origin from an old folk tale in which a clever monkey tricks a not so clever cat into reaching into a fireplace to pull out some chestnuts that were roasting there. The monkey got the chestnuts and the cat got second degree burns.

Nine lives, nine tails.

In olden days, a savage tool called " the cat o'nine tails " was often used to administer a very painful flogging as punishment.

Originated in Egypt, it is possible that the device was made from the hide of cats.

Three separate knottings of three strands each were affixed to the whip's handle.

It was the mystical number nine again that kept the feline superstitiously and wrongly associated with this tool.

Cats certainly are not cowards, but they are definitely smart enough to scamper away, often up the nearest tree when a large enemy threatens them.

Hence the terms fraidy cat and scaredy cat ! jaw drop

We all know that the ability cats have to inspect surroundings is legendary, but at the same time it has been proven that this ability is superior to that of any other domestic animal.

Confessions of this Cat:

Lately, I have been trying to deal with some personal issues.

Many of you know that my cat has been a constant companion beside me for almost 10 years.

She has developed that fine intuition and knows when this Cat is upset.

After a visit today with a specialist, I came unglued, and by the time I reached home, my little feline friend was already upset. She came instantly to the door, whining loudly and then tried to block my way.

There is so much information about animals available and yet, I still do not think people realize how close you can get to one.

This last post of the night is dedicated to my little furry companion, she has heard my hearts content, its aches and smiles, joys and sorrows, worries, frowns, pain and more, she has remained at my side and been there to comfort me.

I understand how attached one can get to their pet, and the pets attachment to its owner. Have had several ESP encounters with animals I have had over the years. Both dog and cat. Once with my 6 yr old tom cat of today. Once when I was 1600 miles away from my 9 yr old toy poodle at the time. I even feel his little spirit with me sometimes to this day. And still tear up with the mere thought of him after almost 20 yrs now. angel

How could a cat get your tongue?

Scholars believe that this expression was derived from a barbaric custom in the Middle East several centuries ago, when it was common to dispense horrific punishments to criminals, one of which was to rip out the tongue from a person who had lied.

Other punishments included chopping off the hand of a thief, and those severed body parts were then given to the king's pet cats as their daily food.

It is a very inconvenient habit of kittens that what ever you say to them, they always purr.

Cats were intended to teach us that not everything in nature has a purpose.

One of the oldest human needs is having someone/something wonder where you are when you do not come home at night.

Now I know how my cat feels when this Cat is gone.
