someone has offered me a kitten, i dont know what to say, i have never had pets, are they hard to look after? they have fleas dont they?

Most kittens you obtain from others ( given away, found outside ect.... ) usually have flea's and or many other little things on the body.
About the only thing one can do is consult a vet or someone educated in care about animals for something like front line or other meds available for flea control. Most meds depend on the age of the animal for dosage.
Cats are relatively independant though and make good pets.
