A home without a cat and a well fed,
well petted and properly revered cat,
may be a home, perhaps, but how can it prove title?

She shut her eyes while the cat kept vigil, watching all the
invisible signs that hover over sleeping human beings
when the lights are out.

When I am cosied into sleep my cat demands the door,
but when I at last I am warm again, she hammers on the
window pane and I am up once more,
open the casement, see her leap,
Cat, from the ledge;
a ghost of leaves and night and rain she settles on the counterpane;

and I am left the edge.

We understood each other perfectly, but we never made any fuss about it; when I spoke her name and snapped my fingers , she came to me; when I returned home at night, she was pretty sure to be waiting for me near the door, and would rise and saunter along the carpet, as if her being there was purely accidental - so shy was she commonly of
showing feeling.

There was one thing she never did, she never rushed through an open doorway.

She never forgot her dignity. If she had asked to have the door opened; and was eager to go out, she always went out deliberately; I can see her now, standing on the sill, looking about at the sky as if she was thinking whether it was worthwhile to take an umbrella,
until she was near having her tail shut in.

The Cat.

Walked by itself, and all places were alike to it.

I know that is right.

No wonder I never go there. So many cats, so little time/room.

The way a cat's eyes glow at night is called " night shine ". A reflection from a mirror in the cat's retina produces the flourescent quality and occurs when a sudden blaze of light falls upon wide opened pupils that have been in the dark. Though cats cannot see in total darkness, they see in light levels that humans would describe as total darkness.

From its admirers it evokes an intense adoration which usually finds an outlet in exaggerated expression. It is practically impossible for a cat-lover to meet a stray feline on the street without stopping to pass the time of day with it.

Over a year ago - this little kitten came on my porch. It was bleeding, half starved, and oh so tiny. I threw it a grilled hotdog. I had no idea what I had done. It grabbed the hot dog and left like a bullet. Days later it came back. I gave it a bowl of milk. It drank greedily. Then I put some cat food on the porch each day for it to eat. One day I was sitting on my porch and the cat jumped on my lap and fell asleep purring. Winter was approaching and I knew the cat would die. I opened up my door, and gave the cat a choice, my home and heart or life ouotside in the cruel world. She walked in looked around and ran back outside, but stopped on the porch and looked across the street and back to me - then of her own free will she came in. Today that cat is my best friend. She is full grown and healthy and oh so beautiful. All her wounds have healed and she has the richest, shiniest coat. I swear though I think she is half human. She can read my mind before I even know what I am thinking.

Cats are rather delicate creatures, and they are subject to a good many ailments, but I never heard of one who suffered from insomnia.

A university study show showed cats to exhibit greater problem solving ability than dogs. Defined as "learning to learn" - supposidly they can remember successful problem solving strategies. Then they use their insight to think their way out of difficult or unusual situations.
Another study concluded that canine recall lasts no more than five minutes, cats recall lasted as long as 16 hours -exceeding even that of monkeys and orangutans.

Just want to add that i am not bashing dogs, i love all animals peace

Cats adore computers; there is often a mouse nearby.
