perci1978: I don't need to see numbers..i see the looks on faces when people i know and myself included can take a paycheck home because of the money that has been put into this economy... the look on my children's faces when i can buy them a birthday present or take my kids to the beach for the day... so shove your numbers...they go up and down all the time.. I look at my friends and children's faces and the smiles I see and the fact that my friends who had lost their jobs because of bush can start to pay their homes again because of obama.. if you are not seeing things happen in your state talk to your state reps and have them get it for you... i am done with his thread... have a nice night all...
toranoga: Unfortunate, particularly when it is close to home. However, we have gone through this throughout the manufacturing, farm and steel sectors with no return to prior employment levels.
Funny, I saw this coming 6 years ago.... where wee the economists back then?

So at what rate of taxation will we be at to pay for all of this? Will our children and grandchildren be in perpetual poverty to pay the debt incurred?
Zeelander: OMG.... you now scare the Hell out of me.
What's scary is some think that infrastructure jobs as a result of the "stimulus" are anything BUT permanent. Basically, it's like putting a band-aid on a growing ulcer, which will only grow once those temporary jobs dry up and the HUUUUUGE tax burden is all that is left...to pay for.

Read Bill Bonner at the Daily Reckoning, Bear Market Central and several others that have been warning of this since at least the 90's. Friedman first wrote about it in the 70's, Volker expanded on it as chairman of the Fed in the 80's and J.M. Keynes wrote of it in the 20's & 30's.
Has anyone come up with anything other than the large young voter turnout. You know the ones, just outta school, and still getting subsidized education, who are drawn to the king of subsidiaries.

That's what he ran on, free healthcare, free education, gov't jobs programs, let the rest of the world support us in the manner to which we have become accustomed.

It's all the progressive left has for strength. They could not win without a massive federal bureaucracy, of their making, who are sure to vote for their employer, all on the backs of the disabled, and elderly, the infirmed, who fear that not voting for them would mean great loss. The young voters, being of the cradled life, and never having to deal with lifes responsibilities, taxation, are just a plus, renewed every year. A renewal that outpasses that of those who have learned the truth.

We developed dependence by numerous categories of people, not the least of which were farmers, defense contractors, road builders, etc. going back to FDR. Each president and congress expanded the dependence and now we are in a mell of a hess.

Thats what happens when the public, this Republic, allows their representation to control the form of democracy we enjoy. Its a subsidized democracy, of their protections.
Zeelander: Being from Michigan, I have a lot of friends who once worked for GM and now are unemployed. Hopefully they can get their jobs back with the new GM.
The new GM just got $20b from the FED, Zee. Looks like they will have coin in the bank to pay salaries and wages.
perci1978: well i can think of quite a few things obama has done for this country so far
he has expanded children's health insurance to reach more kids he has signed the fair pay act(lily ledbetter act) he has given us a withdrawal date for iraq(aug 2010) he signed the stimulus bill...which i see working all over my state now... he set a date to close quantanamo bay.... need anymore...i got plenty...
he has made the auto industry rethink and restructure for the future he has also put more money into clean energy then any president ever...
I feel given the chance and the time he can do alot more..... just wait and see....
We already had a withdrawal date for Iraq. 2)The stimulus may be working in your state, but that's not true in others. 3) The auto industry has been restructuring for 25 years-GM failed because of high wage labor, expensive pension costs, and too many models that no one wanted to buy. 4)He can put trillions into clean energy, but unless the output of wind and solar pay for themselves, it will be a waste and a tax burden on consumers.
BebeII: Israel's economy is in good shape as well, so it's NOT global in as much as some countries handled their financial markets responsibly.
