Elley: Had depression twice, both post divorce. Can,t really explain it other than you feel that the weight of the whole universe is pushing down on you and is trying to crush you to nothing. The first was the worst.I really ought to have been sectioned. What saved me ? Time and the love of a truly wondeful mother (81 this weekend and a true inspiration).

Actually, both times the whole universe, that is to say my world in the form of my two ex wives really was trying to crush me to nothing.Still not sure why ex,s just want to really destroy you and whilst they might fail, can still cause you an awful lot of damage. Sadly, they do not always fail, this type of behaviour kills people.Sometimes the perpetrators get themselves killed too.

Hello everyone,mister happy is back.

Hello, Mr Twatting Happy!'

After a few months I tried to tell my mother but she was way too concerned with her own loss.

I've just come out of three months of Hell on earth and I am now trying to look after my physical body which I totally neglected when mentally broken.

Glad to see you back, Elley, and as they say:

'It's hard to keep a BAD man down!' (or should that be 'good'?)

HI ELLEY!wave Nice to know that you are are still around - sometimes!hug

I`ve know a few people who were on Happy Pills (Prozac), and must admit to being highly amused at their carryings on...blushing

One was a neighbor, in SA - she`d been on Prozac for 30 years (did they make it THAT early? - she said she`d been on it since she was 16, and she was then 46)- a usually very vibrant and attractive female, and one day she`d missed the clinic opening and was a day without them. When I saw her that evening she was dressed in black, no make-up, looking like a wilted flower, crying and sad, pale, hair hanging in rat-tails ..........She just could not survive without it!

Another was a gay guy. Always miserable and moaning. I arrived home one day to find him languishing in the hammock next to the pool, swaying himself one foot draped over the side ......happy as a lark ....muttering "I absolutely LURVE Prozac!... It`s MAGIC!.. I got NO more worries and I feel SO happy!" .... But a week later he threw them away, said he knew they were making him falsely happy, that he wanted to learn to cope with his life on his own.

It is easier, I believe, for medical people to just dish the pills out, and get rid of the patients.....?

therapy only works for people with a very low grade type of problem. Just having someone to talk to like a therapist or a priest helps that person work through the problem. Beyond that, therapy is a waste of time. The mental help industry resort to giving out meds as they realy don't know what else to do. However, If they all took some of these meds, they would not prescribe them.

"Dear Phoenix, it is none of the things you think it is. If I could |I would prescribe something for you. But there are some things which work with 'ordinary depressives'. Dont drink alcohol. Bit by bit work yourself to a high level of physical exercise. Just these two things will give you such a boost of energy that you will find so many other things to be in. But do so consistently. Not one week on and one week off.

Best of luck.

If you read Phoenix's thread you'd see HE is not depressed; just interested in what it is like for somebody to be depressed and how they cope or fail to cope and the affects, if any, of medication.

Some people never get depressed; it is a totally alien concept to them and they go through life with a positive attitude that overcomes any setback in their lives - my guess is that Phoenix is such a man.

Amen to that Bruce.

I think that doctors who prescribe psychiatric drugs should be required to videotape a sesseion with each patient prior to any prescription, during which they explain all the known adverse effects of the drug.

That would end the whole SSRI nightmare.
Who would knowingly take an "antidepressant" that greatly increases the risk of suicide and/or violent behavior, is extremely addictive, and has been proven to be no more effective than a placebo?

Nobody.

Who would knowingly prescribe such drugs?

Doctors, who either don't know the drugs effects, or who don't
care because they are profiting from the the sales in some way or another.

There needs to be legal accountability.
Doctors and drug company agents should go to jail if they fail to adequately warn patients about the dangers of these drugs.

Another doctor in the same town treated a friend of mine by prescribing anti-depressants ... and 20 years later this friend is still on them! If he doesn`t take the pills he has anxiety attacks and feels he is suffocating.

Knowing that the actual pills cost only a fraction of a cent to produce, and that they are sold for at least 500 times what they cost to make. Just think how much profit the pharmaceutical companies make over a lifetime once somebody is addicted.

It's like the tobacco industry. They intentionally made their products addictive.

Same for SSRIs. As time goes by they aren't getting safer, they are even more dangerous than before. The newer drugs have a far shorter half-life so they provoke rapid, violent shirts in brain chemistry if they are discontinued or even if the dose is only lowered a little. It guarantees that most people won't be able to quit.

Nowadays many doctors tell their patients (once they are already hooked) that they will have to take the drugs for the rest of their lives.

For reasons already expressed by myself and others in this thread, the medical system, is increasingly pill oriented instead of treatment oriented. It's not all the fault of doctors. The drug companies have enormous pull and they have influenced laws, procedures, legal requirements, etc etc etc etc to bring about the change. They have also direct-marketed to the public with misleading or totally false claims. Doctors are caught in the middle of a malestrom of influences.

So it's no use blaming the doctors.
But it's no use counting on them to do the right thing either.

Everybody should research natural remedies for EVERYTHING.
They are often even more effective than chemicals.
They are always safer.

Every year 750,000 people die in the United States due to prescription medications.

Nobody dies from herbal remedies.

you are really depressed when you cannot stand up in the morning, when the coming day seems like a threat, when eating needs such an energy you just cannot face it, when smiling is impossible....it can last for a while...big depressions last for months...but you are in a depressed mood when you get energy to face the day, when you can cry and shout out why you are so bad...pills are only a mean to get some sun in you daily life...they don't cure a depression...they help to live the day more easily....
many people suffer but are strong enough to go through daily events without medication...bravo!
But sometimes a pill is like a candy...a small piece of sweet in the day...

and like candy, there is a price to pay too.

Your immune system is being altered as well. The immune cells have a reason for each receptor, they use them to think, act, perceive, and respond in precise ways. A constantly filled receptor renders the cell blind to one specific thing.

At a time when the incidence of many cancers is still rising, sending unknown messages into the immune system seems very risky.

A "chemical lobotomy" is not a cure. There is more to being "normal" than not being depressed. For every chemical breakthrough, there is also a chemical barrier. And only in the future will the true cost of the Instant Cure be assessed.

Hi Phoenix wave wave

basically it is a question that cannot be answered with a simple yes or no. Each case is different with symptoms from this case and some from another plus some new ones mixed in as well.

Phsycology is a cookbook with so many receipes all dealing with the same subject but still are different.

Anyway have a glass of sarkos finest, and enjoy the fact your alive.
