I will probably leave parts of the story out, but I am very concerned. As many of you know, I rescured a dog from the pound the other day.

But I did it on behalf of another.

Now the whole thing has become a total mess.

I have fallen in love with this dog.

The people I had gotten the dog for....

Well, they cry "poor"

yet they both got tatoos today...

The dog acts like it had been abused and follows me everywhere.

We are in bed now, and he crawled under the covers....so sweet.

I don't know what is right.

I know I left part of the story out, but I ....

Well don't know what to do.

Do I follow the promise to the people....

or to the dog?.....

(dog only weighs 5 lbs, people weigh more...)

Ask questions, help me, advise. What would you do? Please be sincere. This has been ripping me up for 4 days.

Thanks friends,

K

You didn't say why the dog was in the rescue pound !

If it's for the reason they are normally in there, then you have the answer..... a good owner doesn't have to go pick up their dog from a pound !

Keep the dog.... the old owners will get over it..... the dog will love you for ever.

Send it back ..... the owners will think you are a mug and the dog will never get over it.

The old owners surrendered it because of the "landlord".

These would be new owners. How do I get out of it? The seem to love the dog, but they cry "poor". They just had a new baby too. How are they going to take care of a second dog? This guy stold cigs off my porch. They had tats today and wanted to make a deal with me? how do I break the deal? It just feels weird. The dog follows me everywhere. I think he is afraid. I am scared.

Seems to me that the dog has made its choice...

If it acts like it had been abused, try to see a vet. Can be a good thing.

but at least keep it. T

Maybe its part of the story that I'm missing but what springs to mind is why these people need an agent in the adoption of this poor animal? confused

Are they in some way unacceptable to the pound? If so, its probably reasonable to assume they are unfit to take care of a neglected creature, whereas you have been accepted as someone who is? If so, you know what to do. cheers

I got him from the Humane Association and he had to be nutered today (their rules). Found out the dog never even had puppy shots. It's a year old! Yikes. Yes, little Mister, loves Miss Kitty (me), so it is good in that respect. What about the other people? How do I handle that. How do I get rid of them?

I know. That was also my thought. I was screened pretty hard by the H.A. They put me through my paces and I had to wait quite a while to get him. I am very much afraid to turn this animal over to these people. What do I say to them to say, "too bad, so sad" when I have already said "well, pay me when you can but the dog stays here until then." Is it bad to say, that I can't follow thru? It is tearing me up. Give me the words. Please.

I would say report your dilemma to the Humane Association and see what they say.

It couldn't be worst for the dog to lost you now.

What the deal the other people proposed ?

Tell them .... If their landlord will not allow them to have another dog, then they can't have it.... simple as that.

If they are saying they are poor, then how do they expect to support a new baby and another dog..... will they let the baby starve ?... I think not and all their attention will be on the baby not the dog.

Tell them, that you will look after the dog until they either move to a landlord that will allow another dog and when they are in a better financial position to look after it.
This will probably never happen, so the dog wins... it stays with you

The words...

After thinking it over, I realized the cheapest thing about having dog... is buying it, and that seems to be a stretch for you right now. I don't think you can afford the animal, but don't worry about him. We've grown fond of each other and I'll be keeping him.

Okay, you guys. I have read all of what you said. I am making myself sick over this. Let me sleep on what you have said and maybe I will be more brave tomorrow.

To me this is a little being. He should be taken care of. And there should be no question about it.

I don't feel good about it.

If I need more thoughts from you all (or courage) I will write again tomorrow.

T
Today, I don't want to surrender him. I am afraid.

Good night loves.

Thank youfor your help heart wings

The dog's welfare is THE most important factor. They are not play things that you can grow weary of and hand back. Why give a dog to people if you are concerned about it's welfare.

If you have any doubts return it to the rescue centre and let it be adopted by people who really care.
