trish123: Even if you didnt I dont see whats wrong with people from other countries being happy for the people who will benefit from this improved care system.

I dont believe some of the comments Ive heard against this move. It must be terrible to sit by and watch loved ones in pain and agony simply because they cant afford medical insurance or have pre-existing conditions.

Unemployment is rife since whichever politicians decided to outsource all the jobs overseas in the name of profit and there must be record numbers of people who have found themselves atop of the mountain of those suffering from the previously government condoned, silent genocide.

I say what a shame this hasnt happened much sooner, very much sooner and well done Mr Obama, America must be so proud to see a government which does what a government is supposed to do which is to care for all its citizens, not just the better off ones.................

Thanks, Trish, and Netterman, too, for your compassion and concern. (I think a lot of people here are also perhaps forgetting that most of us here have European ancestors? I know I do, anyway.) And besides, does one have to be an American citizen before they can comment on what goes on in our country? Nooo, they do not. And they especially shouldn't be admonished for having compassion for us, either. I, for one, am very grateful and appreciate your comments very much.

The US needs to go to a Single payer system. A Single payer System will ensure that every American gets the health care they deserve and at a lower cost then what we now pay.

Some people say; "Well if we cover more people then costs will go up!!" Not true. Look at every other country that has Singlepayer. They pay less per capita and less for healthcare as a % of their GDP.

Others Shout; Well then Healthcare will be rationed!!! You will have to wait to see a doctor. Again Not true. There are people from all over the world on CS, ask them if they would give up their healthcare for the US model.

The only people opposed to healthcare reform in the US are the Politicians in bed with The Insurance Companies, Drug Companies and Private Healthcare Corps. And the people who have refused to research the issue in an IMPARTIAL manner, instead choosing to listen to the tripe spoonfed to them by the Corporate media. The same people who sat there slackjawed and glassy eyed nodding there head in agreement with Boehner as he stood on the steps of the Capitol Holding up his copy of the US Constitution, (Which he claimed to be reciting from) While he quoted the Declaration of Independence. And if you looked at the faces of his supporters standing with him they never knew he was quoting from the wrong document.

IF people want BETTER healthcare and MORE money in their own pockets demand Single Payer Healthcare.

It's a whitewashed Bill that the American people do not understand. It is presented as a "good thing" but it is NOT!
This Bill is detrimental to our Nation!

People seem to think this means all will receive FREE Health care. WRONG!!! You have to PAY for it. They have disguised it as a tax and IRS has been given the authority to collect your debt.

If you do NOT pay your tax payment for your medical care, for ANY reason (unemployment?), you will be subject to up to a
$250,000 fine and up to 5 years imprisonment!!!very mad
This is found in the New IRS Tax Code, a bill passed on Friday.

Sure, there are some good points, such as enforcing Insurance companies to take everyone on with prexisting conditions.
Understand, this bill does NOT give everyone medical care! It gives everyone the right to purchase the medical insurance of your choice, without being discriminated upon.

It is also MANDATORY and they would not accept the Amendments presented, giving people or states the right to "opt out".

I have been following this for a while, watching the Senate and Congress meetings on CSPAN. The past 2 days and nights, I have not been on CS at all, as I devoted my entire time to viewing these proceedings, without any distractions.

People, you have no idea what this Bill really means.sad flower

You will begin paying your taxes on this health care plan on January 1, 2010 and you will NOT receive coverage until 2013.
People, you have been scammed by your elected officials. They have hidden the real truth from you.

Also, there are limitations of benefits. You must pay for the "basic" plan. Should your requirements for certain medical conditions be unavailable from the basic plan, you may upgrade to the higher cost plans, IF you can afford it.

The plans also have spending limits for your care. You can only spend so much over a certain time limit. Some limits are for 2, 3, or 5 years.

You can Download the PDF file of this bill online. (I did!) Read all 1990 pages of it for yourself!!!

Oh, and they are telling the American people that illegals will not receive coverage. So I guess this is why the Rules Committee had such a long discussion over this and ruled that
"undocumented" (they said they prefered this term to illegal alien) persons may purchase the insurance plan of their choice and pay for it out of their own pocket.

confused Many Congresspersons wanted to "send them back", after all, they are illegal! But they argued that much of the high cost incurred for Medical Care was due to undocumented persons receiving emergency care and not paying for it. Taxpayers would be stuck paying their bill. So let's include an option for them to purchase their own insurance! THEY AREN'T SUPPOSED TO BE HERE!!!!

Now think about it Americans...
Is this what YOU really want???
Is this what the American People want?

I say "NO!!"

Yes, we want Health Care available for all, but this Bill left many loop holes for fraud and malpractice. It needs more accountability to protect the American people. These ideas were exchanged, but refused.

It is not Law YET! It still needs to pass the Senate and undergo some other reviews in Congress before being presented to Obama to sign. I suggest contacting your Senators and make these points clear to them. Vote NO to this Bill as it is written. It needs many changes!

Thank you,
HLsad flower

Price should not be a problem... simply re-allocate the hundreds of billions of dollars the US gives away to other countries each year in "foreign aid". That should MORE than take care of the cost of health care reform. It so simple really. professor

HL Thank you for a well written post. I agree 110% with you 1/2 of the people who are whining wanting this have yet to sit down and read the bill. Jobs are more important that passing a health care bill that makes ZERO sense. I pay premiums but I ALSO get to pick who I see as a DR and what treatment they do not have the gov tell me what do do. Were going socialism and ever time they want something they will force it down our throats one bill at a time. Not even 1 of Mr. PRESIDENTS promises for a bill to be up for 72 hours before a vote has even happened.

Soldier byte, let's get one thing straight right off the bat. with regard to a recent comment you made to me, I'm not any one of YOUR women. Men don't own me, least of all you. And my self-esteem is fully intact. I believe affordable health care should be available for everyone. I believe women should be treated with dignity and respect. And I believe animals should be allowed to live without fear of some hunter's bullet ripping them to shreds. Don't like it? Tough! Build a bridge and get over it.

Please, inform yourself about the reality of our situation, then, PLEASE, write your "electeds," and keep on writing.

As George Carlin said, "THEY DON'T CARE ABOUT YOU!"

BUT, they can not ignore a mountain of calls and e-mails, without becoming worried about their OWN JOB.

There are many organizations which make it EASY to do. Credo, MoveOn and lots more, just one or two quick clicks!

The recent House Bill has some good things, a tax on incomes over 500,000 for instance, but, it is deeply flawed and REQUIRES that we pay the greedy Insurance Companies-[can you remember, public funds to bail out AG? Do you enjoy paying for the richest to keep their golden parachutes? WELL DO YOU??]

Also, 4% being S.O.L. really bites if you or someone you love is among that 14,000,000 or so US citizens. Does it not?

We need a better insurance reform law for the President to sign.

handshake Thank you for your comment.

It was brought up in the House Rules Committee and they asked for the 72 hours, as promised by Nancy Pelosi. They pointed out that the American people want them to READ the Bills before voting. This Bill with added exerpts is like 2034 pages! They pointed out the recent stimulus bills which were not READ.
They were refused!

thumbs up applause I agree totally!handshake

Congress tells us that the 4% are the "undocumented" illegal aliens. confused

There IS HOPE however!!!

The U.S. Senate is working on their OWN Bill, truly Bi-partisan and their eyes are OPENwow to the flaws of the Bill that Congress has presented. It should be a True reform of the Health Care system.

I believe that when the S.B. is passed, the House will hang their heads in shame!blues

ladichatterlee: I am one of millions of Americans who cannot afford health insurance. I just got out of the hospital four days ago. I was very close to dying, with blood clots in my legs and in my lungs. Heparin caused me to hemorrhage due to another condition I have, so I wasn't able to use that or any other blood thinners. I had to have 6 pints of blood transfused throughout the week. I ended up having an inferior vena cava filter placed, via my jugular vein. That was not a fun procedure, but it keeps clots from moving from my legs into my vital organs and killing me.

It was only through a hospital financial aid program that I was able to get the medical care I needed, and just in the nick of time. I am a hard-working, taxpaying citizen, but, still, health insurance has been far too expensive for an independent contractor like me to be able to afford. Add to that the asinine restrictions on "preexisting conditions," etc.

My hope is that this bill will help to ease the burden of those Americans who cannot afford healthcare, and hopefully for those who can to try to have some understanding and compassion for those who may even be facing imminent death, and are terrified that they can't get help simply because they cannot afford to pay for it.
No one is denied health care-my own brother has preexisting conditions and still has insurance coverage. If thousands of illegal immigrants can get care, then anyone can.

HL hug You hit a lot of good points.

I am not happy in the least about this. Granted we need affordable health care but not something that has more holes in it than swiss cheese.

There are millions of people that have major medical problems, due to diseases and disorders. Diabetics, Auto-immune disorders, Cardiac problems etc etc. I could list all the medical conditions, but that would be pointless here.

With this new bill, anyone with any major health problem is up a creek without a paddle. I know that I won't get the health care that I need with this bill and I as well as many others will be put on a waiting list in order to get anything done. Then they will also pick and choose what treatment they are going to give me and with limited options for me at this point and time...I will be thrown to the wayside along with many others.

Yes that may sound a little selfish and self-centered, but there are many many people that will be affected negatively by this bill. Being in the health care field, I have a little bit of an advantage but the outcome remains the same.

There will end up being a HUGE black market for medications and treatments by unlicensed practitioners. Is this what we want? Not me

Do you really think that just because the government passes a bill that it automatically a good thing? Wrong

Do you think that they are really looking out for the people and have their best interest in mind? NOPE

If people want to be sheep and just worship the things that are thrown at them just because the things are said to be "good" then go right ahead and continue doing so. If you really want truth then start reading and investigating the things that are thrown at you and become proactive instead of complacent.

frustrated sigh frustrated
