Let's face it - any country that likes to think it is civilised but doesn't provide its citizens with universal health care is just plain backwards and uncaring and ignorant and certainly not the type of country you'd want as the only super power on earth - heck even the bloody Russians under communism seemed in this sense more caring!

Well, it doesn't matter anyway, the bill is passing and Obama will sign it into law by the end of the year, so really it doesn't matter what you think because the majority of Americans want this and the majority of Americans are much more educated about this than you are, obviously.

Will it pass? It has to go through the Senate first. Besides that, I haven't seen any polls where the "majority" of Americans have voted for this at all. BebeII: No child, I'm not. I work in the healthcare field and rationing occurs every day in those countries with so called socialized medicine.
You really can't speak in general terms because although those countries have socialized medicine, they each take different approaches to their care. It may be true of some but not all. I was pleased this week when the AMA came out in support of the bill and I know many physicians that also support the bill because they are not in this for greed they genuinely stand behind the oath they took.

Today, Ranking Member of the House Ways and Means Committee Dave Camp (R-MI) released a letter from the non-partisan Joint Committee on Taxation (JCT) confirming that the failure to comply with the individual mandate to buy health insurance contained in the Pelosi health care bill (H.R. 3962, as amended) could land people in jail. The JCT letter makes clear that Americans who do not maintain “acceptable health insurance coverage” and who choose not to pay the bill’s new individual mandate tax (generally 2.5% of income), are subject to numerous civil and criminal penalties, including criminal fines of up to $250,000 and imprisonment of up to five years.
