In the OP's statement, yes, the obssesion with the bad behavior of others allows us to ignore the need for introspection - others are a diversion in a sense.
In your post constanza, In the story you cite, the stones were already cast, or about to be. The question was - were any of the accusers guilt free. I believe in that story, if memory serves, no stones were cast in the end.
As I recall it was a lesson about judgement was it not?
As soon as we cast a disparaging eye, we commit the same sin - often the very next day.
We think it elevates us, but the effect is the opposite. The more we love, the less the mistakes of others matter
