In other words, good excuse to leave your OH, family and take off into the blue yonder to do what you could have with them, but didn't realize it was that easy if you had just expressed your true feelings.

there are many causes of the effect you have listed just a few ...mmmh true feelings how do you know if you have mixed feelings borne from not knowing?

Sometimes it's not that easy
It can be a matter of having been together for a long, long time and your needs and interests change..
Classic example, which has always stuck in my mind ...
Husband and I relaxing in the backyard, chatting away (he was being nice lol), kids were getting a little older by this stage .. and he asked me what I would like to do, as in for me not just "us".
I spoke from the heart and said I would love to travel and pursue my art ..
He laughed and scoffed at the idea, cos that's not normal, suburban and average .. as he was
In time, as the relationship deteriorated I made the decision to leave, so that at least one of us could be happy (I think he's basically an unhappy man)
Since then, over the years, I have travelled all over the world, and indeed pursued my art.
And I have absolutely no doubt in my mind that I made the right decision back then.
