An old ladies justice, read the article if got time read the story

Her offence was to unwittingly sell a goldfish to a 14-year-old boy taking part in a trading standards 'sting'.
At most, pet shop owner Joan Higgins, 66, expected a slap on the wrist for breaking new animal welfare laws which ban the sale of pets to under-16s.
Instead, the great-grandmother was taken to court, fined £1,000, placed under curfew - and ordered to wear an electronic tag for two months.

Bloody ridiculous, and extreme not to say the least. The Judicial system here sure knows how to dish out justice alright! The fine I can go along with, but not being placed under curfew or being tagged, how the hell did the judge come up with that.!

There is a little more to this though. She had a parrot that was in pain with a broken leg and the vet had to put it down. I believe she has been in trouble before for animal cruelty.

HOWEVER, to tag a 66 year old woman for this is unreal.

Just read it..

She deserved all she got and more applause

It's a blessing in disguise the suffering cockatiel was found and put out of it's pain because of her greed at the goldfish sale thumbs down

I can't understand why her son wasn't for sale in the pet shop. I mean, he looks like a pig rolling on the floor laughing

Animal cruelty and neglect should always be dealt with accordingly.

Great verdict applause cheering applause

Had the poor old woman sold alcohol to a 14 year old, then the response would not have been so sympathetic.

And of course, people are outraged at the electronic tagging of this poor old woman.

There is a law in place for a reason, not selling pets to children, she did. Therefore, the punishment fits the crime.

Comparing her crime to more serious crimes is not really valid, because of course, we would all want a 'real criminal' to have a harsh sentence.

People have a criminal record when they break the law. That means any law that is in place, selling pets to minors is against the law.

Not to mention it is in the Daily Mail.

I got that out of it too. Hi Steve. wave hug

There was something on the bottom of the article that suggested that she ignored repeat warnings from the council too.....

Newspapers usually sensationalise one side of a story to sell papers........doh

I don't believe anything I read in them.peace teddybear

True enough G but it is using a sledge hammer to crack a nutgrin

A lad who lives not far from me has just been tagged for the first time. His record is phenominal stolen in excess of 20 cars ooops sorry not stolen, TAKEN WITHOUT DRIVERS CONSENT I say stolen cost in excess of £150,000 and he gets his first TAG....... He has numerous other offences and none of his folks work can't remember any of them working.....Sorry I digress, He has been looked after by social workers since he left home at 16 moved into a brand new home he's 18 now and no neighbour has stayed longer than 6 months due to his and his friends shenanigans........ Believe it or not his social worker has lodged an appeal as he has only offended twice as an "ADULT" and the sentance is too harsh..........Are we nuts or what.........

PS never had a problem with the lad......3 of my nephews paid him a friendly visit and taught him a wee old fashioned Glasgow remedy for toerags, never comes near our street......wonder whydunno grin grin cheers cheers

Oi wot planet do you live on? If she had sold booze to a 14 year old, she would have got the slapped wrist and kicked out of the court and told to be more careful.

I am and was talking about the response here, not of the judge.

Clearly not the same planet as you, as you were not reading what was written.
