Tomcats2: Keep seeing dead birds all over the place is this happening anywhere lese in the country. Magpie, sparrows Thrushes and other birds. Maybe just noticing more or is it to do with the very warm spring we have had.

Hi T2.. wave

Had a quick search and found nothing in news titles or that, however it could be something down to a parasite known as trichomonosis and seems to happen every year now.. sigh

0rpheus: Probably the wrong place for this but after reading some of the posts I might as well risk it. I wrote this after a nice walk in the wolds.

A long and lonely walk along the Wolds
To see the spring as it unfolds
Rolling meadows that now are green
With spots of colour to be seen

As daffodils poke through the ground
Perhaps to take a look around
The bluebells cluster all together
As if to seek protection from the weather

I notice the wind and the path it takes
As patterns in the grass it makes
New blossom on the trees like dust
Falls like snow with each fresh gust

Faint sound are carried on the breeze
Of singing birds and rustling trees
And as I reach the bottom of the dell
A babbling brook with tales to tell

Having seen the beauty of this place
Lonely feelings I now replace
In the company of nature at her best
I can’t help feeling, I’m just a guest

applause applause applause That was really nice!!! Thanks for that hug You have a great way with words. No worries about putting your nature-related poetry on this thread. There aren't many of us on here usually, so the more the merrier, and it's always nice to read about someone's appreciation of the natural world!

...Well, I am sure you enjoyed your time at Dewar's laugh wine

I just opened my front door and there were a pair of Turtle doves, just a few short feet away. The door started them, but they stayed, so I was very still and watched them for a long time. We have a lot of Robins and a few black birds(and tons of Cardinals), so this was a nice change.wine

confused I can't understand why Crystal can see Yash's Youtube video and I can't! help help The link wouldn't work either mumbling

I don't know what the link was about, but I was going to suggest that perhaps the birds had been poisened by garden slug pellets or other such pest control. It always amazes me that you can go into a normal store like B&Q and it is stacked to the rafters with some really serious wildlife poisons!! Slug pellets seem so innocuous, but they basically kill wildlife (or at the very least, cause deformities in the embryos of birds/animals). Most people would never deliberatly kill dogs, cats, foxes, hedgehogs, badgers or birds, but every time they spinkle slug pellets in their garden, that is what they are doing blues

Awwww...that sounds lovely! wave

I had the same experience at my back door a few months ago. I looked out of the window and there were three grey squirrels playing in the garden. They were running around and scrapping with one another, and one of them darted around the corner where my kitchen door is. I opened it very quietly, and to my suprise there was one of the squirrels standing upright on the doorstep mat looking at me. He looked at me and I looked at him and we just stood there for about 1 minute, before he obviously got bored with me, and ran off along the fence. purple heart

When I lived in Colorado, I used to feed the squirrels sunflower seeds. One day, I forgot to put the bowl out for them and I heard a light tapping on the sliding glass door. When I went to look, a lone squirrel was looking inside and tapping on the door. He waited patiently for me to put the bowl of seeds out and when I did, he just went for it and was a happy little camper....
A few days later, I heard a tapping at the same door and went to look, thinking it was my little squirrel and it was a buck. He was a 10 pointer and he was licking up the shells from the sunflower seeds! He was so close to my door that every time he moved his head, he tapped on my door. Now that was a beautiful sight!wine

leisure07: vulcano gone off in chile get ready for the ash cloud warnings

rolling on the floor laughing Don't think it's going to cause us any problems Mr L.

The ash from this composite (Strato) volcano is actually heavier than what we get from a sub-glacier eruption in Iceland, the ash cloud will not travel very far. (Grimsvotn and Eyjafjalla in Iceland where both sub glacial which produces very fine particulates.)
