I think that one of the worst feelings that one can have is the "what if" feeling, so if I were you I would just go for it, find out, it may turn out to be nothing, or a total disaster, but it could also turn out to be a great experience. My opinion:
Keep communication alive. How about going for a week to Miami beach to get a nice suntan? First let him know you will be in his neighborhood, and it would be great to catch up if he can make it. Go for friendship first, to make sure there is chemistry and availability.
Long distance can work just fine if you like each other.

Oh honey! Oh Time, you thief! Doll, I was such a wallflower in high school I had a difficult time saying hello to people. He's just a late bloomer, as are many in school days. It's probably really neat that you two are contacting now--are you/he available. (You want him to be, is my guess. Fortune favors the bold, love.
