I'm not a bible scholar, in fact I've hardly read much of the bible except in motel rooms as a sleep aid. I'm a little confused about the origin of people on earth according to the book of Genesis. It seems the text of Genesis is all numbered so that would imply some chronological order to the story. For example: "1 First God made heaven & earth 2 The earth was without form and void, and darkness was upon the face of the deep; and the Spirit of God was moving over the face of the waters. 3 And God said, "Let there be light"; and there was light. 4 And God saw that the light was good; and God separated the light from the darkness. 5 God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And there was evening and there was morning, one day. 6"
Now let's jump ahead to, "Then God said, "Let us make man in our image, after our likeness; and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps upon the earth." 27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them. 28 And God blessed them, and God said to them, "Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth and subdue it; and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the air and over every living thing that moves upon the earth." 29" This was like day 6. All this is called Genesis 1. Next we come to Genesis 2 and the numbers start over again at number 1 thus: " 1 Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them. 2 And on the seventh day God finished his work which he had done, and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had done. 3 So God blessed the seventh day and hallowed it, because on it God rested from all his work which he had done in creation. 4" Now lets jump ahead again to, "5 when no plant of the field was yet in the earth and no herb of the field had yet sprung up--for the LORD God had not caused it to rain upon the earth, and there was no man to till the ground; 6" OK so what happened to the man and woman he created in Genesis 1? Lets jump ahead again to this, "7 then the LORD God formed man of dust from the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being. 8 And the LORD God planted a garden in Eden, in the east; and there he put the man whom he had formed. 9" Then god makes a whole bunch of animals for the man to be his helper and the man names all the animals but none are a suitable helper so then god makes woman. cont:
Now my question is this. If god made men & women in Genesis 1, how come there was no man to til the ground and god had to make Adam & Eve? Didn't he already make people on day 6?
You might be thinking, mixing the numbers up depicting sentences, subject, with the combination of numbers that depict one day, evening to morning. The sixth day,
" 24 And God said, "Let the land produce living creatures according to their kinds: livestock, creatures that move along the ground, and wild animals, each according to its kind." And it was so. 25 God made the wild animals according to their kinds, the livestock according to their kinds, and all the creatures that move along the ground according to their kinds. And God saw that it was good.
26 Then God said, "Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, and over all the creatures that move along the ground."
27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.
28 God blessed them and said to them, "Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air and over every living creature that moves on the ground."
29 Then God said, "I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for food. 30 And to all the beasts of the earth and all the birds of the air and all the creatures that move on the ground—everything that has the breath of life in it—I give every green plant for food." And it was so.
31 God saw all that he had made, and it was very good. And there was evening, and there was morning—the sixth day."
ooby_dooby: Now my question is this. If god made men & women in Genesis 1, how come there was no man to til the ground and god had to make Adam & Eve? Didn't he already make people on day 6?
Simply because "God made" man and woman first in the spiritual realm, before he "made" physical earth. First was man and woman, then earth, then physical man and woman.

So God man man and woman in the spiritual realm, and then turned them into physical beings?
Doesn't that show some lack of forsight?
If we were intended to be physical beings, why didn't he create us as such?
Then again, if we were intended to be physical beings, why do so many people think we're going to be angels in heaven when we die?
And once more, if we're going to be angles in heaven when we die, why did he bother making us physical in the first place?
If he already created angels, why make human beings, so we could suffer our lives through, and then just jump on the angel gig?
If His Divine Plan was for earthly human, and He is infalliable, then aren't we safe to say that perfect human beings, created for and belonging to the earth, would ultimately be here, on the earth, ultimately perfect again, in a paradise, instead of up where they don't belong, existing as something else than what they were created for?!

ooby_dooby: Are you suggesting I re-arrange the text to have it make sense?
No, you just read it in the order, in the way it is written. Many, many people cannot understand how simple it is to understand the Bible. Scholars can easily define the works of physcologist, the works of speculation about the physical man, but they do not, cannot understand a word of the Bible because it is beyond their abilities. Everyone studies, and learns the material world from the time they are born. From the day they are born they learn their place, and how to create it, while at the same time removing a truth they knew when in their mothers womb. Little by little measurement of time, space, property, and wealth, its love, crowds out a power of Love that bringing them into the world. For centuries, has the years have passed, it has become easier for humans not to recognize the truth, and power, every one of us has an ability to choose. The Word is right in front of everybody who reads the Bible, but few understand it, or use its force of Truth. So many sick could be healed, so many of the least among us could be helped, but instead self-love, possessions of self blinds the world, its love.

"The poor, you will always have among you..." Jesus.
Grandepensees: Naaaah, that I think is someone's writing to keep faithful people poor to better control them.
What you do not understand about that is the fact the upper class never stop to assist the poor, just has he was teaching. The rich walk buy, knowing damn well the person needs help, but act like its not their fault, or someone else should be helping them. Of that one moment, that one thought, the rich man recorded his love in the book of life. A book that everyone holds, and the only book they cannot burn, give away, or throw away. Your conscience, everyones conscience, will be their judge of life, and of their death, or life. It will happen in the blink of an eye, and its record is permanent, not to be erased, only corrected.

Some people have NO conscience, who'll judge them?

Arrrrrrooooooooooooooooooo~!
howa barrellofart the bible clearly saya we will have spiritual bodys in the new heaven and earth. but not like the angels . angels where created to serve god.and allso to serve man his most treasured possion. it is allso stated that we have guardian angels by our side. and no where does it mention they have wings except for the cherbium it says the devil was thrown out of heaven and brought a third of the angels with him which rebelled against GOD. if the devil does not respect god and his atority you can imagine the hate he has for man who is created in GODS image. we can see his work upon the earth today but the bible says his reign is nearly over. GODS plan will be fullfilled in the end, when he put an end to the devils work and mans destruction of the earth. lets hope its sooner than later

Well, I just thought I'd ask a question about the origin of human beings according to the bible because there seems to be 2 creations of people which makes no sense.
In truth, I didn't expect to get a logical answer and so I'm not disappointed. All you get if you ask for an explanation or attempt to make some sense out of these texts are quotations from the book itself complete with numeric references to chapter & verse and/or you are told that you don't understand or worse, that you are incapable of understanding.
