Ooby....am going to be honest with you. I have lived in Central Florida for 30 years....same town. So I know it pretty well....and sadly it knows me pretty well by now. But that is another thread and post.
Been trying to think of the times, I have seen non law enforcement officers.....carrying loaded hand guns ...in the open. I know they can get concealed permits and many do.
In that 30 years of time.....I cannot say that I have seen it more twice.
Maybe old Virgina is different. I know that they use to have a honored tradition for dueling. And if that is what law is meant to reengage....yes it should be reversed. But I suspect that you will see few open handgun carried into bars or elsewhere.
Why?
Well when sitting on a bar stool, with your weapon holstered and elbows on the bar sipping your favorite Nihi or Beer of choice..... having the weapon taken from your holster and used against you....is pretty easy to do.

The thing that I wonder about (I'm not worried about it cause I basically don't give a s__t) is the guy who just by virtue of the fact it is now legal, will decide to excersize his 2nd Amendment right and go to his local watering hole with his gun just on general principals (like that guy that brought an assault rifle to a townhall meeting or something). People start drinking, inhibitions diminish, tempers flair, a fight breaks out (happens all the time) and somebodies husband and/or father, sole provider, dies en route to the ER. And for what? To prove a point?
If you need to bring a loaded gun to a bar, maybe it's the wrong bar.
ooby_dooby: Thanks to the efforts of our new Republican Governor, effective today, in my state of Virginia, you can bring a loaded gun into a bar.
Isn't this just a wonderful example of common sense being subjugated by idealism?
The bright side is that when some idiot gets plastered, he stands a better chance of getting shot before he gets the opportunity to endanger the rest of us by getting behind the wheel of a 4000 lb unguided missle.
OOBY .....Maybe we should capitoloze on that and market all new sporty Bar-apparel - Kevlar Vests for drinking ?

Hi ya ooby, I posted the requirements needed to be met before one can carry a concealed weapon for a reason. You, this nation, is not apt to see a licensed person snap, like you say, because that same person knows there are concealed weapons all around him. Those old western movies were certainly good, and kept your attention, but the historic details, representations, were a bit stretched.
What you mentioned has an "assault weapon" was in fact an AR15, semi automatic rifle, unable to fire automatically, and is not an assault rifle. BOO, scared ya, 'cause it looks like an M16.
"The same protester told KNXV separately, "I'm exercising my rights as an American in Arizona."
The protester was among a dozen other demonstrators carrying unconcealed guns outside the Obama event.
Hancock, who said he was packing a 9-millimeter Beretta pistol, added that Phoenix police had known about the group's intent to protest while carrying guns.
"They are the ones standing a few feet away from us" at Monday's protest, Hancock said. "Oftentimes, the citizenry are better armed than law enforcement -- they need us on their side."

Instead of going to high school... I grew up as a homeless teenager, on the streets of one of the worst neighborhoods in Los Angeles. I lived a dangerous life. I moved to Hawaii, with $10, and a one way ticket; when I was 20. Most of my childhood friends were dead, by the time I turned 25.
I'm 50 now; I have not spent much time off of the island of Hawaii, in the last 25 years. It's been a long time, since I looked down the barrel of a gun, or fought a man, who had a knife.
Now, I live in a peaceful life, in a tropical paradise, full of friendly people.
