Thanks to the efforts of our new Republican Governor, effective today, in my state of Virginia, you can bring a loaded gun into a bar.

Isn't this just a wonderful example of common sense being subjugated by idealism?

The bright side is that when some idiot gets plastered, he stands a better chance of getting shot before he gets the opportunity to endanger the rest of us by getting behind the wheel of a 4000 lb unguided missle.

Ah.... The N.R.A. bringing you a better and safer country... Their motto should be..

" The right to bear arms, and the right to arm bears"... no wonder over 11,000 gun related deaths a year in the USA....

Gun Control? The genie's been let out of the bottle long ago... We're trying to catch up on some laws that have been passed in the 80's and 70's. A lot of areas of the U.S are still all kinds of wild, where Man meets nature. Weapons go with what you may encounter: Mountain lions, Bear,
What would you use? A knife?laugh
On the other side, the military has got so high tech thanks (because of? dunno )to the help of science and the old weapons are still around, cheap and shipped.
This issue is endless... help

Okay, so what happens to all those security guards that were hired to frisk people before they entered the bar to ensure they weren't carrying a weapon? (I know this happens because I experienced it in Texas) So this new law that allows people to bring their gun into a bar will actually create more unemployment, of course, the shootings will also create less people, so maybe it's a wash.

But how many do we lose to stampedes? I know it is over 50,000 per year to car accidents. In a country of 304m.....were many see a increase to armed druggers..... some with pretty heavy weapons....as in Ak-47s....being fielded.....having your own 38 special for house hold.....seem approraite.

I have always thought we should invite members of Europe to visit our inner cities areas..like watts, harlem, little Havana and to give lecturers of peaceful conflict resolution and to do gun turn in clinics for us.

It would a interesting combination of the language and cultural mix, should be very instructive. Willing do to inner city visit and give a lecturer and ask for a gun turn in? Our police do it all the time.

Yeah, we all know that 67.987% of all statistics are made up on the spot...... or was that 76.648%.......

The thing is that TOO many are killed by either legally or illegally held firearms.. Canada has a higher per capita gun ownership and only a fraction of the killings..... FACT

Whether it gang related, domestic, crime related or whatever.... they're still dead

Don't say "we" because you don't speak for every American. I didn't see anything bjk said to justify a rude response like that.

Yes, but it's not for their own private use.

It's so that in case Switzerland is overrun by an enemy, the people will be armed and able to mount an effective resistance.

I think it's a much better idea than a standing army. It's not so apt to be used for invading other countries and the like.

"the ability to walk into a bar with a concealed handgun" http://www.timesnews.net/article.php?id=9024318

That, mr. ooby is not your average joe, josephine, walking into a bar with a loaded handgun. Here is a part of the requirements the citizen must meet. We will keep the publics protections in place, even thou the dems closed all the nut houses back in the '60's, '70's.

Training Requirements

1. Completing any hunter education or hunter safety course approved by the Department of Game and Inland Fisheries or a similar agency of another state;

2. Completing any National Rifle Association firearms safety or training course;

3. Completing any firearms safety or training course or class available to the general public offered by a law-enforcement agency, junior college, college, or private or public institution or organization or firearms training school utilizing instructors certified by the National Rifle Association or the Department of Criminal Justice Services;

4. Completing any law-enforcement firearms safety or training course or class offered for security guards, investigators, special deputies, or any division or subdivision of law enforcement or security enforcement;

5. Presenting evidence of equivalent experience with a firearm through participation in organized shooting competition or current military service or proof of an honorable discharge from any branch of the armed services (DD-214);

6. Obtaining or previously having held a license to carry a firearm in this Commonwealth or a locality thereof, unless such license has been revoked for cause;

7. Completing any firearms training or safety course or class conducted by a state-certified or National Rifle Association-certified firearms instructor;

8. Completing any governmental police agency firearms training course and qualifying to carry a firearm in the course of normal police duties; or

9. Completing any other firearms training which the court deems adequate.

"A photocopy of a certificate of completion of any of the courses or classes; an affidavit from the instructor, school, club, organization, or group that conducted or taught such course or class attesting to the completion of the course or class by the applicant; or a copy of any document which shows completion of the course or class or evidences participation in firearms competition shall constitute evidence of qualification under this subsection..."
