He wasn't the best or even that successful, but as a youngster he fair entertained me. When he got on a roll, he was fast and unstoppable.I remember him racing around that table as if posessed. He's one of the guys that took snooker out of seedy clubs and into our front rooms.

And I don't think he knew much happiness in his life.

Well, he's playing with the angels now!angel

God bless you Alex!

I don't meen to argue, but prolonged success like Davis and Henry! His bulb glowed very brightly but very shortly!

I think it was that his decline was very long, he kept trying to recapture his form but never did, and became known for his antics rather than his snooker.

Spare me, ye are too young to appreciate what he did for the game of snooker. Hendry and Davis bored people. Jimmy White, Ken Doherty, John Higgins and Ronnie O Sullivan have all said that they played the game because of him. Of course he had his faults but that doesn't take away from his legacy...

Anyone remember his game against Dennis Taylor after they'd had a row, you could have cut the atmosphere in the arena with a knife.

Alex was probably snookers most naturally gifted player and shone through in a time of minimal media coverge and took the game towards the mainstream popularity it enjoyed in the 80s. Yes, he was a flawed man but his unparalleled natural talent was awesome and he will never ever be forgotten for it. Yes, his nature and illnesses held him down but it is his sheer ability to show and entertain that we will remember him for, an ability that still shines though whenever he is spoken of.

Rest in Peace, Alex; the match is won.
