paulgateshead: luton is also considered as a london airport as its ident is london/luton i know yhis as i worked for a contractor to britannia and monarch airlines
Gee, never heard of luton. Is that part of/near Heathrow?
This is great. I'm learning so much all of a sudden...
bodleing: It certainly does, 8/9 hours for a little over 200mls...maybe it's horse drawn.
Not on your nelly, bodie!!! Not after 24 hrs flying time from Oz, then training it all over Italy, to get to Milan airport, then flying to London...then having to do it all again on the return. No flippin way am I doing the coach trick!
venere08: All set for being in England 17th-21st Sept...
..but I've screwed up really badly!!! I'm landing in London, whereas it seems I should have landed in Birmingham!!!
I did check for B'm, but no cheap tickets, and I thought it wouldn't matter anyway. Now it turns out Summer is miles out of London. Then I thought, that's ok, catch a train to her. Thinking of how relatively easy and affordable intercity train travel is in Italy, I assumed it would be that way, too in England. Not so, it seems!
A mixture of excitement on my part, having found a really cheap fare, and Summer's avoidance of answering her bloomin 'phone for nearly 24hrs, thinking I was a telemarketer!!! has turned everything all pear-shaped!!!
So now it might be a case of just wearing it, and cutting my losses for that ticket. Summer can still come and meet me in Florence for a few days as planned anyway, right Missus?
Who else has had the best laid plans go all skew wiff in an instant? Go on, fess up! It can't be just me!
Oh, any helpful advice will be greatly appreciated.
What I'd do is store the majority of your luggage if you need to at Heathrow Baggage Holders - thats usually quite cheap. Take a small bag with you and fly to Birmingham. Cant believe it takes 2.50 to fly to Brum from Heathrow, though? Sounds an awful long time to me.
Get a return ticket to Brum, or even Newcastle. Should be easy enough from Heathrow.

Good luck!
I just looked at a site for a flight London-Birmingham.
There were no non-stop flights on those days.
It went via bloomin Copenhagen, and cost US$350. Jeez, this isn't looking too good!
You can get cheap flights from London Stanstead to Newcastle direct, and a return would be around 100 Sterling.
You would have to get a taxi to Stanstead, and not take much luggage on board, but it would be cheap, and direct to Newcastle.
I think there are more flights available to Manchester than either Birmingham or Edinburgh, and there's always a chance of a lift off me over to Sue's.

Its a long way to travel, V thats for sure for you!
Take your time. Try and get a stop in London Heathrow overnight to collect your thoughts; get to another London airport where the budget airlines go from (Luton, Stanstead) the next day and leave the majority of your luggage at the hotel or luggage holders.
If you can take a nice, leisurely flight up to Newcastle for a few days you will be nicely refreshed, and know your luggage is safe.
Then, get a return back and go on from there.
Wish I could help more from here, but its difficult by emails!
