Boban1: it`s a done deal, as far as I have read the news ...
and something fell on my mind while I read it this morning ...is , creating a problem and then offering a solution ,the idea behind it
Nothing is ever a done deal in America until it is built. It is now 2010 and the memorial still hasn't been built.... and now people argue over a "potential" mosque... you see where I'm going?
Here is my problem, I think the group should provide financial disclosure as to where the $20+million is coming from.
Try $100 Million, not $20 Million...and here is your answer!
The developers of the Ground Zero mosque are refusing to flat out reject cash for the project from Holocaust-denying Iranian nuke nut Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.
“I can’t comment on that” was the reply of mosque spokesman Oz Sultan yesterday when asked specifically if the fund-raising would extend to Iran and Saudi Arabia. "We'll look at all available options within the United States to start."
Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf, the leader of the project known as Park51, has said at meetings with downtown officials that he would raise money for the 13-story mosque from local Muslims, foundations and the sale of bonds.
But in an interview with a London-based Arab newspaper earlier this year, he admitted his fund-raising would also extend to Muslim nations around the world.
The possibility of tapping the radical rogue Islamic state of Iran for funds comes as the United States is stepping up sanctions on the regime in retaliation for its support of terrorism and what is feared to be an illegal nuclear-weapons development program.
jvaski: I understand you , and I might feel differently if I lived in your country ......but I don't
Sri Mahatma Gandhi and Mother Teresa lived in my country too . There were the greatest apostles of love and peace .Your statement shows how prejudiced you are towards people from other countries.

equiya: What about a church or mosque near Alfred P Murray building in OKC? I asked that question you didn't answer.
I wouldn't see that as a problem at all to tell the truth. I would imagine a 13 story shrine or building dedicated to a Militia group or David Koresh would be rather protested heavily though.
equiya: what has the mosque got to do with healing the wounds ????????????????? do you know that there is a mosque within 4 blocks of the location? it's been there for many years, should we bulldoze it down?
It is a 13 story building with information centers a pool, recreational facilities and of course, a rather large Mosque. It is ramrodded by the Cordoba Institute which is an organization designed to heal the rifts between west and east and provide better understanding etc. It certainly is their right to request and receive an approval to build there but, if their intent is to improve relations, considering the majority of people are against them building this large Muslim building so close to ground zero then they have failed.
As well, Bollywood's point of how this will become a Mecca of sorts for the more radical people and possibly even wanna be terrorists is valid. While it may be benign to most Muslims to others so disposed it is a victory post.
equiya: ok, America should be weary of muslims, including YOU there were muslims killed in the 9/11 attacks, if you don'i know
the attackers are linked to Al qaeda, based in Afghanistan and Pakistan should America raid those countries and kill innocent ones?
America already did invade Afghanistan using it's military which also included many Muslims.

jvaski: If we show prejudice - they have won
The intent of those who attacked the WTC and Pentagon was not to take rights away from Americans but to display their power to the Muslim world in order to garner recruits to topple what they consider corrupt Apostate Regimes and begin to rebuild the former Calipahtes. Their eye is on what we do in the ME and to them and could really care less what happens here in the West as long as it doesn't make them look week.
That said, while they won't win if we take freedoms away, we all lose so in that, I suppose they would gain a small victory.

Conrad73: Quote me the Article that upholds the Right To Build!
I dont need an article. If a piece of land is zoned for residential or commercial building, then anybody who can pay for the land can build. Geez Conrad...

Providing they have met all zoning and local by laws. Conrad is correct, there is no provision to build as a right.
Conrad: Quote me the Article that upholds the Right To Build!
There is none. However, there is one that prevents people from stopping people to do legal things such as build if that action is based on anything such as race, religion or any personal differences.
1st Amendment
Congress: shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
So, if all legal requirements are met, those wishing to build the mosque can go right ahead as it is their right under the constitution.

Told that to the posters, that insisted that the Right to worship automatically translates into a "right" to build!

It doesn't and what's more, while these guys now have the legal right to build based on getting the correct papers whatever, we all have the right to state our opinions and whats more, we have the right to tell those people what we think.
This clap trap about how we don't have the right to stop them etc is just that. Of course we don't however, as the Cordoba Institute's mission is to bridge west and east, pissing off more than sixty percent of America with a less than 25% approval is hardly what any sane person would ever call a wise move or at the very least - in line with what they wish to accomplish.

Building, building building...If the media would put the 9/11 story to bed instead of beating it to death like they have been in New York since it happened people could get on with their lives. However, for the sake of ratings the media is going to milk this story for the next one hundred years. The people in New York simply cannot move on in life if they are constantly bombarded by the media hype about it. I'm not saying forget about the people who died, remember them for the lives lost and the sacrifices of the people who went to help, but the media in NY will not let you get away from it. The media has built something that they will not tear down because it plays on the human emotion and it's perpetual emotion machine.

I did not post here for you to examine my comments and YOU thinking they are untrue does not bother me and I don't care. It won't change my opinions. Just find something better to do with your time instead of behaving silly snd like an a--hole here.
