Does anyone on here know whether or not "Gypsy" blood runs in their family??
I have a friend who mentioned this to me...and you know what i think i would have liked to be a Gypsy (the romantic kind...not the thieving kind...I'm not really good at that type of thing)...
Anyone else?...or for that matter any other type of "romantic" foreign ancestry?
My Mom has always referred to me as a Gypsy, and I guess in some ways she is right. On my Dad's side there was Gypsies, though I never got to fully explore all of it. One day I hope to finish my research on it, it's quite fascinating. My Dad won't believe it until I've finished the full research on it, so I guess I have to make sure I finish it while he's still alive.
Exactly the kind of remark that has us keeping it to ourselves. Just another stereotype, just like the one that we all steal. For the record, the lie about us all being thieves came from the jealous Christians. The day they crucified Jesus there were originally 4 nails, but a gypsy stole the one intended for the heart. They got ticked and labelled us all thieves. I am a gypsy, with 4 college degrees, and then some when it comes to education. Sure, I read tarots along with texts, and have been told I am amazingly accurate, but being a gypsy doesn't make you ignorant. For the most part, we are healers and entertainers. My family tree is full of both.
Even though it was "hush hush" at the time...I have heard there is a "voodoo priest" from Haiti who is also part of my ancestry...blood got mixed during the "plantation" days...
Roma is a part of my heritage....which is the bloodline of the Gypsy Creole is also part of my heritage....which is the french/canadian bloodline that settled in New Orleans....Cherokee is the last part of my heritage that I know of.......
the patois that I have known is an eclectic blend of some very unique and special history of all the things that i have lost in my life, what i miss most are my grand parents and the heritage that they shared with me....
I had to practically pry this information from my grandmother...and she only shared it with us a few years before she died...we knew we had mixed blood we just wanted to know from where...I am very glad..my curly hair is my legacy to that blood that runs in my family and i too am glad for my heritage...
If you choose to impose that inflection to my post, it is merely your choice, not my intent. I didn't jump down anyone's throat. Simply pointed out that the stereotypes are part of the reason why a lot don't tell anyone what they are. Try it some time. Check out the looks you get just from the word. Never ceases to amaze me how many actually look nervous and uncomfortable, as though you are going to put some kind of "hex" on them I will admit to using the ignorance of a certain cab driver in Mexico against him. Knew he was going to take the "long way back to the border", so I dropped a casual comment, and bam! We were there in record time Had some fun with the incredibly backwards Bajans too.
