hopeeyefindyou: I can tell you my daughter met her husband on line many years ago.(we all thought she was nuts to meet someone on line). He was from Colorado and she from Michigan. He came to see her here and never left... They got married, moved to North Carolina and had my graddaughter that is 7 years old now. They seem to be very happy!
Where in Canada do you live and where in the US does he live?
Myself, the farther/further away the better for me! This gives you plenty of time to know one another better.. before the first meet.
Just last night there was a guy that wrote me a few weeks ago and said: I like what I see... I think we make a very good looking couple... I wrote back and said: Yes we do... We kept missing each other. On another site we were both on they matched us as a perfect couple... Well, he finally got a hold of me last night.. 8 emails to be exact. He found out at the one site they put the wrong city where I lived, wich was 4 hours away..Me and my big mouth told him I was just 15 minutes away He then asked me what I was doing last night. I got out of it. That's why I say the further away the better!!! I'm NOT going to run out and meet anyone without, very many LONG conversations on the phone first!!!
So. in short, I think you both have a better chance of making it work because of your distance!!!
just4sweetie: good point my friend however shouldnt there be a meet before determining you are going to make this work?
Its pretty easy to fall inlove on line, what happens when you meet?
When should you meet?
Hello.....
From my experience there would HAVE to be a meet before determining whether you are going to make this work. I have met a couple of Ladies from this site, 1 I travelled a long way to see and another who came to visit me. The first one I was a tad naieve and thought we could/would have something special. Unfortunately it was not to be and while we are still friends there was no chemistry. The second Lady turned into an absolute disaster and one I don't want to even think about now....
It has happened on this site, and others, where people fell for each other online and have gone on to have a great relationship.
However I have read here on numerous occassions where people profess their undying love for someone they have not met yet. Most dont seem to work out.
After my experience I suppose I am a tad sceptical, but in saying that anything is possible and miles are less of a barrier than false promises, misleading information or downright lies.
Travel is real........looking into someones eyes when they are talking is real.....feeling that spark when you hold hands or hug is real.......Go find out if its real for yourself.
just4sweetie: What experiences have you had when someone is interested in you but lives in another country?
success, failure, pointers
There is another success story I just thought about. My neighbor across the street from me. Her son met a girl on line from the Philippines. He went there to meet her and got engaged. He came back home while her parents planned the wedding. When it was time to marry her, he went back to marry her. He had to leave her behind until all the paperwork went through in the courts. She has been happily married to John and has 3 kids... That has to be about, I'm guessing 10 plus years now... for sure.
2intrigued: I had a love interest in Michigan (8 hours drive). We were ready to meet when someone closer to him appeared out of the woodwork....truly upsetting to say the least
How convenient... I may be wrong, but, sounds to me like the guy just got a case of cold feet... NOT to worry... If he is that fickle, better to happen before you met then after.

venusenvy: I think we are the first generation to live in the global village. We are the pioneers so to speak of online dating. Sooo I dont think at this point there are any hard and fast rules...I think we are creating them as we go
definately agree with you there venus.....VERY true we are the pioneers for this...in another 20 years this will all be so easy I believe and the NORM....right now its a struggle at times.
sharkmeat: im not sure thats really long distance. we dont call it canada anymore, its the "upper usa"
and theres nothing wrong with fried coca cola. its crispy and delicious and makes an excellent breakfast side dish.
I don't know about Canada becalled the upper USA????
I was talking to a guy in Canada. We were talking about different things and he said that his aunt married a rich forigner from Michigan.... I said WOOOOOOO what do you mean Forigner???? We are just 20 minutes away!!! He said: we are from Canada and you all are from the USA... I started laughing... I never thought of it in that way!!! Nevertheless, he is right though... After 911, We now need a passport to either cross the bridge or tunnel to get to and from Canada and Michigan...
There are people who've actually *seriously* made those points, Open.
To the OP: I am one of the Canadian Meets American poster-children (as are KissmeDeeply and Eric).
The points about distance - that many areas in the US are farther apart than US-Canada areas are - are well-taken. And you can get across the border if you have a passport. That's something you will need to discuss sooner or later if you're becoming serious enough for a visit.
Interestingly, the culture between some Canucks and Americans can be quite close. One of the amazing things about GG and me - for me - was that we had so much culturally in common. In fact, I've never met anyone with whom I had more socially in common (except the dratted Canadian custom of always removing shoes in the house!). Canadians are hyper-aware of what's going on in America and with Americans. Not so much in reverse.
If it gets truly serious, then of course you face the dreaded citizenship issue. One or both of you would need to apply for citizenship in the other's country. Fun!
But otherwise, Canucks and Yankees are basically kissing cousins. And we all know how much fun that can be...don't we...?
venusenvy: Uh-huh with relatives in Nigeria that need money for an operation!!! High five EQ
Yes. Either that or his brother died in a car accident and left 6 million dollars hidden in a Swiss bank and he needs her help get the money which he will share with her.
